Task 3 Unit 6

What is quantitative research?

Quantative is a systematic, investigative method of research. It is data

led in approach, designed to answer a specific research question.
Quantitative studies gather numerical, statistical data to support or refute
these previously held hypotheses. Both research methods and analysis
are structured to draw descriptive conclusions that are able to recommend
a suitable course of action. Sample sizes need to be large in order to
generalise results to the entire target population.

Quantitative research attempt to remain detached from the study, this

technique doesnt influence anyone with their own opinions. This is so
they dont appear bias and sway anyones opinions. This is a good thing
because the answers a true to everyone individually.

What is qualitative research?

Qualitative is an exploratory method of enquiry. It sets out to research

underlying causes, emotions and values prior to a hypothesis being
developed. The goal of qualitative studies is to discover and explain why a
phenomenon or behaviour occurs. Methods are focused on improving the
depth of knowledge around a subject, using semi and non-structured
questioning to allow for a freeform, responsive dialogue. Sample sizes are
typically small as the volume of data gathered from each research
participant is large.

People taking part in a focus group can easily be influenced by the impact
of the moderator therefore, not making the results accurately true.
However, Qualitative research can provide a broader amount of
information such as quotes for advertisement and presentations.
