Casing Drilling Defined

A rotary drilling process:

That cases the well as it is drilled.
Where the casing replaces the drill pipe.
pipe
Where the casing provides hydraulic energy and mechanical force to
the cuttingg structure.
Simply put in conventional drilling you would drill the hole with a bit and
drill pipe, trip it out, and then case the hole. In Casing Drilling the hole
i already
is l d casedd once TD is i reached.

CDS and an optional reaming shoe are used to run casing
with rotational and circulating capabilities
Level 1.3- This is often used when the client is having
difficulties getting the casing back to bottom.
bottom They will use
Level 3 retrievable system to direct casing through the well.
Level 2

Non-retrievable
Non retrievable System
Incorporates either drillable bit or bit crossover
Drillable Bit ((XCD3),
), once casingg ppoint is reached,, the casingg is
cemented into place. Another bit is then used to drill through the
drillable bit and continues on to the next casing point.
Bit crossover allows to reach casing point and drop ball to shear
x-over and allow bit to fall into rat hole. The casing is then
cemented into place. Limited to final casing point.
Directional tools and MWD tools cannot be used. used
Every foot drilled is kept.

Level 3
Retrievable

Specially designed BHA that can be tripped and set at will

without tripping the casing. As in Level 2 every foot that is
drilled is kept.
BHA can be tripped with drill pipe or wire line.
Incorporates all directional and MWD tools.

A pilot bit cuts a hole roughly 85% of required diameter.
Underreamer is then used to open up the hole to desired OD.
