In Disney Pixars film, Ratatouille , features a rat named Remy and his quest of
becoming an honourable French chef. Aside from Remy, there is captivating language
spoken by none other than the famous food critic in the movie; Anton Ego. While he
also looks like a potential villain throughout the film due to his bitter reviews, he is just
pure vulgar. Ego lets his emotions manipulate the actions he took against restaurants,
It seems highly possibly that Anton Ego may have been suffering from depression
or another form of mental illness throughout the course of the film. He becomes quite
bitter due to the course of the mental illness, but this all changes when he takes a bite
of Ratatouille. It is implied in his final speech in the film, that Ego had become too
accustomed to his position of power as a critic and his ability to tear individuals down.
Remy and his dish had the power to open his eyes to this and make his realise this.
With Ego now being a changed man, he understands what Gusteau meant: While not
everyone can be an artist, true talent can be found in the most unusual place. He
Egos credentials would most definitely be disfigured if people found out that he
only truly loved and enjoyed his mothers cooking. Which could be the reason why he is
passionate about food; stating I dont like food, I love it, and claims that he refuses to
swallow food if he does not enjoy it, which explains why he is so thin, and reaffirms the
Anton Ego is a hypocrite throughout the film, considering he is a critic, but his
opinion is immensely biased. Critics are supposed to stay unbiased when giving
reviews, for the one reason being they have to give their audience the performance
they require. It is crucial due to the fact that it prevents favouritism, allows an objective
perspective, along with it provides the individual with room for improvement. Ego
remained biased until tasting Remys dish, since he only preferred his mothers cooking.
