I still have it. My Tonka jeep that was my Xmas gift from the man I considered my

daughter played with it as a kid. I cherish it. It is something I still have that I will never
let go. Found out MANY years later that he wasnt a very nice man actually, but, even so,
I still treasure this jeep as a reminder of someone I truly lovedChristina Tucker

OMG!!!!! Come to think of it there is something else I can think of that you may find
interesting. My very first Yankee game was in 1967 vs Red Sox. It was a twi-night double
header and the second game was the longest ever at Yankee Stadium, 20 innings.

But here's the thing, it was "record day"...they gave out records that had the Yankees fight
song on one side and I cant remember what was on the other side. They never did it
again because, as you can well imagine giving several thousand drunken and disgruntled
(remember how bad the Yankees were in 67) Yankees fans free projectiles was not the
smartest thing the promotions experts ever did. Those records rained down on the field so
badly that they threatened to cancel the game and have the Yankees forfeit. Well I wish I
still had the record I got that night. I was only 8 so of course I didn't hurl mine down onto
the field. I have no idea what I did with it. PS sorry about your ball....that must just kill

Editor noteshown below is an ugly old Ducking Stool. The term

"cucking-stool" is older, with written records dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries.
Written records for the name "ducking stool" appear from 1597, and a statement in 1769
relates that "ducking-stool" is a corruption of the term "cucking-stool". Whereas a
cucking-stool could be and was used for humiliation with or without ducking the person
in water, the name "ducking-stool" came to be used more specifically for those cucking-
stools on an oscillating plank which were used to duck the person into water.
Well I am happy to be in Florida for a few days at our
Beautiful home away from home and Port St. Lucie. Since I am here by myself, I find
ways to entertain myself. Today I did the Home Depot thing and the Palm City Palm's
thing (buying plants that will always die on me for the front yard) and I also had a good
time at the guitar center in Port St. Lucie West playing various expensive guitars which I
can't afford.
The people here are definitely different and redneck and still fighting the Civil War but
that's another story.
The main point of this post is that I had a ticket at one of my favorite theaters in Fort
Pierce called the "The Sunrise Theater " which I have mentioned in previous posts.
The show tonight was called the "McCartney Years" and I must say I was pleasantly
surprised the see a band of this caliber.
In true Sal Bonagura fashion, I weaseled myself up to the first row and was able to see
how the guitar players played the songs.
Sal, Patty Cook , Gail , and of course Terri and Ginger would have been in Beatle
Heaven!!
I think they are way up there as far as Beatle tribute bands go but of course the Fab faux
are the very best. A must see if they come to town. After the show, I went to the Fort
Pierce town Square to celebrate Saint patties day with the locals.
Oh brother very redneck and they had a band that was absolutely horrible. So that was
my Saint Paddy's day. Tomorrow I go back to the Sunrise Theatre to see Gordon
Lightfoot. The last time I saw him he seemed as though he has aged but I can report that
tomorrowSteve Riscica, Sr. 1970

So I had some bread and rolls that were a few days old and instead of tossing in the
garbage, I broke into pieces and threw them onto the sheet of ice that I call my front
lawn. In doing so, I hit my hand on the door post right on the spot that was broken a few
years ago and has a plate and four screws. Ouch. Then I found some more bread in the
refrigerator decided to do the same thing only this time I hit my thumb that has basal

HOLY SHIT!!! I was getting groceries and stopped at the gas station to get lottery
tickets. When I pulled in, I noticed these two cops looking at a woman who was smoking
while getting gas, and I'm thinking wow, what an idiot with the cops standing right there!
So I go in, get my tickets and a drink and as I was checking out, I hear someone
screaming "look outside!!!" The woman's arm was on fire!!!
She's running around like a chicken with its head cut off, waving her arm around and just
going nuts. Those of us inside go out and the cops put her on the ground and were putting
the fire out with an extinguisher. After all that, I start walking to my car, and I see the
cops were putting her in handcuffs. The guy next to me is like, "what the heck?!?" I kinda
stick around cause I wanna see what happens. He asked the cops what in the world they
were arresting her for? Wasn't catching her arm on fire punishment enough?!
Kid you not, the cop looked him dead in the eye and said, "For waving a Firearm".

So we had takeout from Outback for dinner tonight. I was told that my order
would be ready at 6:05. I got there at exactly 6:00 and parked directly in front of the
takeout door. I saw shopping bags brought out to the rack but no one ever looked out the
door to see what cars were there. At 6:32, I'd had enough and went into the room. There
were people on line giving orders but no one was delivering to the cars. They told me
they did not see my car. A white Camaro is somewhat hard to miss when its directly in
front of the door. I paid for my order and pocketed the tip I had ready to give to the
person who brought the food to my car. Since my order was one of the shopping bags I
saw put on the rack, it had been there about 20 minutes. I paid with my Amex and told
them if my food was cold, I was calling Amex and refusing to pay. I was so aggravated
that I called the manager from the car and told him if it was cold, which it was, I would
not pay. He said to call him first. The steaks were barely warm, the potatoes were hot,
soup was cool. Called the manger back and he told me that he had already comped my
order. Sometimes things work out okay. My father said he wished he had known before
he ate, he would have enjoyed it more...Lynne Lombardi 1971

I was pretty shocked. But he said they were short one person - they kids in the little
takeout room did not even have coats on. They assumed that if they did not go out, the
people would come in. Jay couldn't believe that I waited as long as I did but it was cold
and I would have had to go park my carLynne

years ago, and again last Spring. It has become a ghost town. Amazing!
Mary Tufts 1974
Many of the species of fish that lived in the sea have been killed off by
the combination of pollutants, salt levels, and algal blooms. Dead fish
have been known to wash up in mass quantities on the beaches. The
smell of the lake, combined with the stench of the decaying fish, also
contributed to the decline of the tourist industry around the Salton Sea.
Many people now visit the Salton Sea and the surrounding settlements
to explore the abandoned structures!

NEW SUFFOLK
In 2007, New Suffolk's two-room school house had nine students in grades K-6, making
it one of the smallest school districts in the state of New York.
Built in 1907, the wood-frame schoolhouse is the heart of a sleepy hamlet that once had a
U.S. Navy submarine base and a thriving oyster industry in Peconic Bay. Now parents of
the students hold a mix of jobs, including farmer, lawyer, janitor and nurse.
With its $1.1 million annual budget, the school has no cafeteria, auditorium or gym.
Some classes have just two or three students and feel like private tutoring, students say.

Here's another rather sad sea burial you may or may not have read about:
Loyce Edward Deen, an Aviation Machinist Mate 2nd Class, USNR, was a gunner on a
TBM Avenger. On November 5, 1944, Deen's squadron participated in a raid on Manila
where his plane was hit multiple times by anti-aircraft fire while attacking a Japanese
cruiser. Deen was killed. The Avenger's pilot, Lt Robert Cosgrove, managed to return to
his carrier, the USS Essex.
Both Deen and the plane had been shot up so badly that it was decided to leave him in it.
It is the only time in U.S. Navy history (and probably U.S. military history) that an
aviator was buried in his aircraft after being killed in action.

Great Gull Island
This undated image shows the exterior of a World War II-era observation tower on Great
Gull Island. The island, east of Plum Island, became a coastal defense fortification in
1896. Fort Michie was built on Great Gull Island in 1900 and served as a World War II
harbor defense site. It consisted of two 12-inch and two 10-inch coastal artillery guns on
"disappearing carriages" and various batteries, according to the New York State Military
Museum.
Montauk Project: Mind Control, Time Travel,
Aliens, etc. Believers say that people were kidnapped at a U.S. Air Force base
and subjected to mind control and time travel experiments. And extraterrestrials somehow
had a hand in it all. Its been dubbed The Montauk Project, and is the subject of an
upcoming docu-drama, Montauk Chronicles, executive produced, directed and written
by independent filmmaker Christopher Garetano.
But nobody has been able to actually prove these allegations. And all thats left of the
Montauk facility currently a state park is the above-ground remnants of the original
Air Force base. According to a document issued by the Air Force Historical Studies
office, the Montauk base, known as Camp Hero, was decommissioned in the early 1980s.

Hi FolksFor the past few months I have been unable to read the
newsletter. Each month I receive the email saying the new newsletter is available. I get
the full email, but there is never any "newsletter" link to use in the Orange header at the
top, as there used to be. I have tried using the link provided in the email and also copying
the URL into my browser. I'm at a loss. Would appreciate any suggestions you may have.
Thanks very muchElsa Green Rienzi 1967

ElsaIn my monthly announcement, the link to our website home page is given in the
following paragraph:
The March 2017 issue of the HixNewsletter is ready and has been posted to our website.
All you need to do is click the following link:
http://hixnews.com/1703/
(or,copy-and-paste the link address to your browser, and press the [ENTER] key).
Do you not see the highlighted link?
Once you get to our homepage, the link to the Newsletter section is in the orange-colored
header labeled "The Newsletter". When you click on that link, it takes you to the
Newsletter itself, which may take a few seconds (or even minutes, if you have a very
slow internet-access connection) to load on your screenBestHenry

Dear HenrySo here is what I discovered....when I received your reply, I felt really
frustrated because I have tried everything you suggested. I generally use a Kindle Fire for
all my internet viewing. However, when your reply arrived I read it on my iPhone. So I
went back to the original email on my iPhone instead of kindle and, lo and behold, there
are the links in the orange header. For some reason the bottom of the header with the
links does not appear on the kindle. Now I'm going to try it on my regular computer; but I
am very relieved that I'm not going nuts- not about this, anyway! Thanks for your prompt
reply. I relocated from Hicksville to Florida ten years ago, and enjoy the connection
through the newsletter. You all do a terrific job. Best wishesElsa
ElsaAh, so. That now makes sense to me, too! So, from now on, when you are
mystified by something that used to work on your computer, but doesn't work anymore,
the first thing to do is ask yourself the following question, "What am I doing differently
from what I was doing before?" The answer to that question will likely give you an
important clue as to what is going wrong now.
Thanks for your feedback, Elsa. BestHenry

I sure am GLAD I have a stupid television at home...

WikiLeaks claims Samsung smart TVs are among the CIA's weapons for surveillance.
WikiLeaks claims the CIA worked with U.K. intelligence officials to turn microphones in
TVs into listening devices.
Samsung smart TVs have microphones so viewers can make voice commands, such as
requests for movie recommendations. The commands typically aren't transmitted outside
the home unless users activate the feature. If the TV is off, there's no listening being
done.
But WikiLeaks claims that documents it obtained show that through a program called
Weeping Angel, the target TV appears to be off when it is actually on - and listening.
WikiLeaks says the audio goes to a covert CIA server rather than a party authorized by
Samsung. In such cases, audio isn't limited to TV commands but could include everyday
conversationsJim Rubins 1967

During a visit to my doctor, I asked him, "How do you determine whether or not an
older person should be put in an old age home?"
"Well," he said, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a
bucket to the person to empty the bathtub."
"Oh, I understand," I said. "A normal person would use the bucket because it is
bigger than the spoon or the teacup.."
"No" he said. "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the
window?"

Henry et alI would like you to add my brothers name, Daniel L. Arena, to your In
Memoriam page. My brother passed away November 8th, 2016 after a 2 year battle with
colorectal cancer. Very sad. His last 6 weeks were very difficult. RegardsPeter

PeteSo sorry for your loss. It's difficult to watch a loved one deteriorate and there's
nothing you can do. Many of us, including me, have been witness to these kinds of
tragedy. You feel helpless and pray that the doctors are able to control the pain. But what
do you do for your pain??? Hopefully you have someone to lean on who is strong and
able to help you through the pain. I did and was thankful that they were there to help me.
I will say a special prayer tonight for your brother, Danielbuffalo bob casale
BobThank you for your very kind note. I have an anecdote and a proverb that I want to
share.
20 years ago I separated from my former wife and having just lost my job, money was
extremely tight and I eventually sold my condo, found a guy looking for a roommate,
shared an apartment like a college kid, only I was 41 years old.
The apartment I lived in was near a main street in Chicago and I could see to a couple of
storefronts a half block away. One of them was a ceramics studio which always had
examples of their work in the window. However once a year, the window would be
changed to a memorial for the brother of one of the studio owners. This brother, named
Jimmy, had died at a fairly young age in the 80s from what appears to be AIDS. The
memorial would be different every year. The last time I saw the memorial, about 3 or 4
years ago, long after I had moved to a different neighborhood, the window display had a
quote on it. It said, Grief is the price we pay for love. Thanks againPeter

ClassmatesI just received a letter from Richard North, informing me that Charlie
Rosengren ( class 1950 ) passed away. Charlie and I were close friends, hung out a lot
together and I went with him and his parents to Roosevelt Raceway to wager on the
trotters back in the day...Art Lembke 1949

On Monday March 6, 2017 our wonderful mother so peacefully passed away. Our dad
who passed away 6 months ago came to get her so they could spend eternity together. She
was the most loving and caring person to her 5 children, 9 grandchildren, nieces,
nephews and her many lifetime friends. We are so grateful that we got to spend so many
years with her. She will be forever loved and missed by all of us who loved her so. Peace
to you our wonderful mother. Services will be held at M.A. Connell Funeral Home

We lost a very special soul today.

Bob Audy is dancing again and teaching jazz and tap to the angels. The world will not be
as bright without him in it. He was a man who was so spiritual; he told us he
choreographed from the inspiration he got from God. I'm grateful for every moment I was
lucky enough to take class or spend time with him. He was my first dance teacher at 3
years old when he taught for my Aunt Vera at her studio in Ozone Park, Queens, NY. My
heart is heavy tonight, as are those of all who loved him. Most people remember him as
the best tap teacher, but his jazz classes were extraordinary as well. We just werent ready
to say goodbye. He was still teaching from the hospital telling students who visited him
the next steps of the new routine and having them dance it until it was how he wanted it
Begin The Beguine will always hold a special place in my heart. Bob, may you be led
into the light by all of those dancers who left before you. May the angels wrap you in
their arms, set you down and there youll be doing a tap combination for them to learn as
they escort you to that dance studio in Heaven, one of the most beautiful places in
Heaven.

In the most recent HixNews there was an item near the beginning from somebody
referring to Bill Burakoff, music teacher. Is this someone related to Gerry Burakoff?
Gerry Burakoff literally saved my brother Jeffrey Schlegel(Class of 1970)'s life by
teaching him to play the french horn. Jeff went on to become a professional hornplayer
in several orchestras in Argentina where he wound up living until he died of a heart attack
in 2007. Jeff flunked every other class in school, every year of school EXCEPT music.
He had to make up the classes by going to school EVERY SUMMER from k to 12. But
music was different. I guess he was born to be a musician. Nowadays, they'd say he had
a learning disability, but back then it was off to the Long Island Youth Orchestra which
toured the world. He went on to attend Manhattan School of Music, met an Argentine
named Valma Ricci (ex-wife of the famous violinist Ruggiero Ricci) and moved with her
to Argentina for the last 25 yrs or so of his life. He died at age 55. I would love to write
to the person who made this entry if he is willing to pass me his email.
Thanks for all your tireless work on the HixNews,
Stephanie Schlegel Manning 1968 (42 year resident of Berkeley, California)

StephanieThe note I put into the newsletter last month from Bill Burakoff was not
received as an email but rather as a post thanking me for creating a video Hicksville Then
and Now. I don't have an email address but found a Bill Burakoff on Facebook and sent a
note regarding your note and the reference to his dad. Be patient and I hope to hear back
soon. I will let you know. Thanksbuffalo bob casale
