1. Find the c(s) guaranteed by the Mean Value Theorem for f(x) = 4x3 + 2x2 x on the interval [-1/2, 1].

2. Find the linear approximation of f(1.1) if f(x) = 4x3 + 2x2 x.

3. Using the second derivative test find all, if any, x-values where f(x) = 4x3 + 2x2 x has a relative maximum.

4. Find the absolute minimum y-value for f(x) = 4x3 + 2x2 x on the interval [-1, 2].

10. The rate of growth (feet/year) for a purple northern bamboo tree is recorded for a series of years. Using the
table below, and 5 midpoint Riemann rectangles, approximate the height of a tree at year 11, if the tree was 2.3
feet tall when it is one year old.

11. Find the average value of y = e2x on the interval x:[-1, 2].

12. A spherical snowball is rolling down a snow-covered hill and is getting bigger, such that its radius
increases 2 inches for every yard the ball rolls down the hill. At the moment the ball has rolled 30 feet down
the hill, find the rate of change of its volume with respect top distance rolled.

13. Using two steps of Eulers method, estimate f(1.8) if f(x) = 3x2 x and if f(2) = 10.

14. You have a rectangular piece of metal whose dimensions are 5 X 4. You are to fold up each side and
create a rectangular tray. (A rectangular bottom, four sides and no top) What dimensions of such a tray will
give you the maximum volume?
