Leadership is an important skill and is needed more and more every day. I
gained leadership experience through two programs: band and AFJROTC. In band, I
have become the section leader for the trumpet section and the low brass section.
In AFJROTC, I have taken multiple leadership roles. The most prominent of which
was as the squadron XO (Executive Officer) and acting Squadron Commander. In
keeping with that, I learned a few things that can help any leader. Being of small
stature (at least compared to the majority of the people in the corps) does not
exactly help when thrust into a leadership role. Since this was my situation, I had to
figure out how to lead when people do not listen. Long story short, that is the main
reason I am in the position that I am currently in.
Having endured (going on) four long years of AFJROTC, I have been gifted
with gratuitous amounts of leadership experience. Having commanded multiple
Honor Guards for parades and ceremonies, I have cemented myself as an intricate
part of the corps of cadets and the school in a leadership position for both. AFJROTC
has also instilled a sense of service in me through the numerous community
outreach events that we conduct. Finally, AFJROTC has taught me character.
Thank you for taking time to meet with me to hear about the completer
program I finished while a student at Nitro High School. I look forward to meeting
with you in person and sharing with you the valuable skills I learned while taking
these business classes during my high school years.
Sincerely,
