RATIONALE
Standard 6 of the ISLLC Educational Leadership Policy Standards identifies that an effective
leader acts to influence local, district, state and national decisions affecting student learning.
During my leadership training, I was given an assignment to write a letter to my state
representative or senator to highlight a specific concern or issue. I chose to write a letter to both
my State Representative and State Senator to call their attention to the Childrens Cabinet
funding changes that the Governor pushing. These funds help support the Kansas Infant Toddler
Network and I wanted the legislators to be aware of the importance of these funds to the birth-3
population with special needs. I believe the letter to the politicians demonstrates my ability to
influence state decisions that affect student learning.
