What Design Week Portland on Friday, April 21
Each student will tour two studios or maker spaces and learn about
their work. They will talk with the designers of the Green Loop
concept and see the exhibition and prototype. Students are also
invited to attend the Friday afternoon activities and Saturday speaker
sessions.

Cost No charge to participate in this event
Transportatio Students get themselves to the headquarters then will be assigned groups.
n They will tour two studios in inner SE Portland. They will be walking,
hopping on Tri-Met or may be shuttled via Taxi vans to the locations on their
tour.
Meals Lunch provided.
What to wear Dress is business casual. Wear shoes to walk in heals are not advisable,
you will be going on a walking tour of. NO shorts, sweat pants, crop tops,
caps/hats, t-shirts with objectionable logos/graphics or gum.
Cancellation If a situation occurs where the student is not able to participate, s/he must

should the student or school attempt to find a last minute replacement.
Only pre-registered students will be allowed to participate
Other Students must stay in their assigned groups for the duration of the tour.
Students are expected to fully participate in activities and show respect for

Draft itinerary for Friday, April 21:

8:15 am: Student check-in at Headquarters (The Redd, 831 SE Salmon Street). Students will be
assigned to a group for the studio visits. Students should wear comfortable walking shoes.

9 am: Each group of 15 students will visit two design companies / maker spaces in nearby SE
Portland. Participating studios include Camp Grizzly (design & production/video, youth brands), New
New Crusher Court (creative development, architecture), Poler (apparel), OMFG (branding, apparel,
environment) Adam Arnold (fashion designer). Students will learn about their work as well as their
career paths and education.

11 am: Students will re-convene at Headquarters (The Redd, 831 SE Salmon) and talk with designers
from a local design collective about the Green Loop, a conceptual promenade linking east and west
side. There will be a large prototype and exhibition. Pizza included!

1 pm onward: Speakers in design at Revolution Hall (the old Washington High School, 1300 SE
Stark). These are like Ted Talks for designers, by designers. This is part of Design Weeks main
programming; students are welcome to attend.

Saturday, April 22 (optional): Students with the fellowship are welcome to attend Design Week
Saturday programming.

each participant is responsible for his/her own safety and agree not to look to the hosting
businesses/organizations or other involved parties with regard to liability for any claims related to
participation in the career day activities.
The student agrees to attend and participate fully in the entire program. (Students will not be
allowed to leave early)
