Seismic analysis in STAAD

STEP 1: Modelling
Model the desired structure according to the dimension and
specifications.

STEP 2: Applying section dimension and support.

STEP 3: Loading.
Always apply seismic load initially before applying dead, live and wind
load. Verify the direction and loading pattern after analysis whether the
seismic analysis is correct or not. If seismic analysis is correct, apply
remaining loads.
1) Commands/loading/definitions/seismic load/IS 1893-2002
2) Generate/select zone/Response reduction factor/importance factor/soil
type/ damping ratio (keep btwn 0.95-1.00)/ depth of foundation/ period
(choose the direction of structure which is highly vulnerable to
earthquake)/ period 7 (a structure can withstand only upto 7 seconds
without fail)/generate/add/close.
3) Select generated seismic definition/add/self weight factor 1/add/
close
4) Select load case details/add/loading type: seismic/Title
EQz/add/close
5) Select generated load case EQz/add/seismic loads/mark z direction/
factor: 1 (which means 100% earthquake effect on the
structure)/add/close.
STEP 4: ANALYSIS
(Pulldown menu) Commands/analysis/perform analysis/post analysis
print/ analysis results.
(Pulldown menu) Analyze/ Run analysis.

Check the direction of displacement of the structure to verify analysis is

correct or not.
After earthquake analysis apply all remaining loads and loadcase.
