Name of Organization:
Main Street Events
Description:
Over the past 30 years, the Main Street movement has transformed the way communities think about the
revitalization and management of their downtown. Cities and towns across the nation have come to see
that a prosperous, sustainable community is only as healthy as its core.

The vision:
Our vision is that downtown San Marcos will continue to provide a sense of place for its citizens and
visitors, be an entertainment and shopping district and all within a historically-focused commercial district.

Downtown is the heart of San Marcos. It is a combination of its assets: its history, unique river, historic
properties, and educational environment, complimented by a variety of recreation, business and
entertainment facilities, and a diverse and multi-cultural population.

The Mission:
The mission of the San Marcos Main Street Program is to maintain the unique, historic nature of
downtown recognizing its history and planning for its future. We strive to provide economic stability to the
heart of our City through a comprehensive revitalization program of the National Main Street Centers
Four Points of Main Street: design, economic restructuring, organization, and promotion.

o Organization: To building partnerships, consensus, and cooperation among


community groups, stakeholders, and individuals in the revitalization process and
assemble human and financial resources to implement revitalization efforts.

o Design: To improve and preserve the downtown environment to include buildings,


infill, and new development compatibility, enhancing the visual and historic qualities
and economic viability of the commercial district.

o Promotion: To promote a positive image of downtown by marketing the districts


unique characteristics to residents, investors, business owners and visitors with an
effective promotional strategy through advertising, retail promotions, and special
events.

o Economic Restructuring: To strengthen downtowns existing economic assets while


expanding and diversifying its economic base to meet new and existing opportunities
and challenges.

at. It allows them to create an environment for the locals or
targeted people to enjoy the San Marcos environment.

Part Two
Name of Event:
Brew Hop
Date of Event:
April 1, 2016 5:30-8:30 after party to follow.
Location of Event:
The Event takes place throughout the San Marcos Square.
Description of the Event:
This is a new addition to Swing on the Square weekend. The Brew Hop is an event
that features craft beer tastings from local microbrews in downtown shops.
Target Audience:
The attendees for the event must be at least twenty one years of age. Our primary
target audience includes individuals in their late twenties to early thirties.

Program Rational:
The San Marcos Brew Hop is an event that has the ability to diverse our older wiser
folks with the younger crowd. All together they can enjoy a cold beer in their hand
while touring and experiencing downtown San Macros. Visitors will get a better taste
and feel for what San Marcos has to offer, and experience the lively environment
and welcoming hospitality. This Event aligns with the mission statement of our own
local Main Street Program to maintain the unique, historic nature of downtown
recognizing its history and planning for its future. Our goal is to bring a new, safe
inviting opportunity for enjoying the downtown area and nightlife. This event is the
cushion for our much-anticipated Swing Fest, all in the heart of San Marcos.
