CMO SE PASA DE LENGUAJE DIRECTO A INDIRECTO. 4.- Oraciones mixtas (oraciones afirmativas / negativas; preguntas +
ordenes; ordenes + oraciones afirm./neg, o todas juntas.)
1.- Frases enunciativas: afirmativas o negativas. a) Cada una requiere su verbo introductorio propio.
Primero se pone el verbo introductorio, con THAT (estilo formal) o sin THAT Ej: I dont know the way. Do you?, he asked.
(estilo informal), luego los cambios pronominales, de tiempos verbales, de He asked he didnt know the way and asked her if she did / if
tiempo y de lugar. she knew it.
Ej: He said, "I'm going home." He said (that) he was gong home Someones coming, he said. Get behind the screen.
"I don't like tea", he told me. He told me (that) he didn't like tea. He said that someone was coming and told me to get behind
the screen.
Verbos introductorios son: say, tell (+ objeto), explain, suggest, insist (on)
promise, warn, admit, agree, remind, claim, complain, reply. b) A veces, cuando la ltima oracin es una frase afirmativa o negativa
que ayuda a explicar la primera, podemos usar AS en lugar de un

She wondered if/whether I had studied for the exam. He exclaimed / he said that it was a dreadful idea.

3.- rdenes. a.2.- Give an exclamation of delight,disgust, horror, relief, surprise, etc.
En el estilo directo utilizamos siempre el imperativo para indicar una
orden. En el estilo indirecto, empleamos la siguiente estructura: a.3.- With an exclamation of delight, disgust, horror, relief, surprise, etc, + he,
Sujeto + verbo introductorio + objeto + To + infinitivo. she, etc. + verbo.
Ej: He said to Jack, Open the door, please.
He told Jack to open the door. a.4.- Otros tipos de exclamacin, tales como Good!, Marvellous!, Heavens!
He said to me, Dont talk. ------ He told me not to talk. Oh! Ugh!, se pasan como en el apartado a.2 y a.3 de arriba.
Ej: Good! he exclaimed.
Verbos introductorios son: tell, ask, advise, warn, order, command, etc. He gave an exclamation of pleasure.

a.5.- Fjate tambin en: d) Verb + (THAT) + verb in the past.


Ej: He said, Thank you! He thanked me. Add, answer, ask, exclaim, state, etc.
He said, Curse this fog! He cursed the fog. Ej: They added (that) they bought it in England.
He said, Good luck! He wished me luck.
He said, Liar! He called me a liar. e) Verb + gerund.
He said, Damn! He swore Apologise for, insist on, suggest, etc.
Ej: John apologised for being so rude.
b) YES and NO se expresan en estilo indirecto con el sujeto + el verbo
auxiliar apropiado. f) Verb + THAT + subject + SHOULD + infinitive.
Ej: He said, Can you swim? and I said No. Should debe usarse cuando queremos expresar la idea de que algo debe ser
He asked (me) if I could swim and I said I couldnt. hecho, o es importante. Va con verbos como:
He said, Will you have time to do it, and I said Yes. Advise, ask, demand, insit, order, etc.
He asked if I would have time to do it and I said that I would. Ej: She advised that I should work harder this term.

6.- otras formas de expresar el lenguaje indirecto.


EXERCISES
El estilo indirecto normalmente ocurre en prrafos contnuos de Enunciativas (afirmativas y negativas).
lenguaje indirecto, no en frases sueltas. Para unirlas, usamos frases como:
She went on to say, he continued, he added that, etc. Tambin usamos 1.- Im very tired, Carmen said.
verbos que introducen estilo indirecto como: they invited, she remarked, etc.
No debemos aplicar las reglas mecnicamente cuando pasamos a 2.- My husband hasnt cleaned the room, Mrs Smith said.
estilo indirecto; tenemos que interpretar lo que omos o leemos, as que a
menudo usamos verbos como exclaim, insist, suggest, etc. 3.- You dont look well, my friend told me.
Las contestaciones de SI/NO y los adverbios como WELL
desaparecen cuando los pasamos a estilo indirecto. 4.- Ill see you tomorrow, said Graham.

a) Verb + object + (not) + to.
Advise, ask, command, demand, invite, order, remind, request, tell, warn, etc. 6.- I lost my lighter last night, Michael, said Chris.
Ej: He advised me to go to bed early.
He ordered me not to smoke in there. 7.- The Times is not a Government newspaper, the writer said.

b) Verb + (not) + to. 8.- My husband said, John was appointed chairman at Christmas.
Agree, promise, offer, refuse, threaten, etc.
Ej: She agreed to come with me. 9.- The doctor will prescribe tablets if your head aches, she said
She promised not to tell anyone.
10.- John said to me, These flowers are beautiful.
c) Verb + (nombre o pronombre complemento)
Greet, interrupt, introduce, thank, welcome, etc. 11.- Helen to Jane, I bought you this car today.
Ej: She introduced me to her friends.
