April: The Parents Association together with Ms.
Gaffey organised a sponsored Fun Run/Walk in the
Town Park. It was a great morning and the girls
made a huge effort to complete 5km. A total of
2065 was raised. Many thanks to all the parents that
helped out that morning and to everyone that sponsored the
girls.
We would like to express our gratitude to Katie
Meenans dad, Jason, who very kindly volunteered
to wash the windows of our school over the Easter
break. We are delighted with the outcome and
would like to thank you for giving so freely of your
time towards making St. Philomenas a cleaner, brighter school.
24th April: Following on from the success of keeping St.
Philomenas N.S. a sweet free zone during Lent, we are asking
that all sweets/treats are kept at home. Thank you for your co-
operation.
Thank you to all the girls that made a donation
to Trcaire during Lent. The total amount
raised was 110.79. This money will go towards supporting
communities in the worlds poorest regions.
27th April: Ms O Connor and Ms McDonnells classes received a
visit from the Peace Run Team. It is a global
relay which promotes international friendship
and understanding. The relay team are running
from Galway to Belarus carrying a flaming
torch as a symbol of peace.
The torch has been held by many prominent people such as Pope
Francis, Pope John Paul II, Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela,
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Bill Clinton, Mikhail Gorbachev and
sports personalities such as Muhammad Ali and Carl Lewis. In
Ireland, Sonia OSullivan, Catriona McKiernan and Bernard
Dunne have held the Peace Torch. Our senior girls were very
lucky to get the opportunity to hold the torch and run some laps
of the playground.
