Praxis Core Exam Analysis

Exam Requirements

Prior to being admitted into the education program at UNLV, NSC, or UNR for a

Bachelors degree, students must pass the Praxis Core Exam. In order to pass the Praxis Core

Exam, students need to pass three separate sections: Math, Reading, and Writing. In the state of

Nevada, the minimum scores required to pass these exams are 150, 156, and 162, respectively.

Exam Preparation

To be honest, I did very little preparation before taking the practice tests required for this

assignment. I took the Reading exam first, without doing any preparation at all. I wanted to see

how well I would do on my own since its been over six years since Ive taken any college-level

courses. After scoring a bit lower than I would have hoped on the Reading exam, I spent

approximately fifteen minutes looking over the study guide for the Writing exam. I planned to

spend a while longer preparing for the Writing and Math exams, but after reviewing the Writing

study guide I felt that I would do much better on the two latter tests, and took them without any

additional studying.

Exam Results

I was content with my results for all three exams. My lowest score, in Reading, was in the

73% range, indicating that Im right on the border of being likely to pass the official Reading

Praxis Core Exam. I scored in the 83% range for Math, and in the 88% for Writing, meaning I

am likely to pass these sections of the official exam.

Future Exam Preparation

I have not yet taken the official Praxis Core Exam. In order to prepare, I will need to

review the study guides and likely purchase an online program to ensure Im ready for the

Reading section. Since I plan on pursuing my Bachelors degree in English, I believe I will be

getting plenty of practice, specifically for the Reading and Writing portions of the exam, once I

enroll in classes at Nevada State College.
