FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RMIT University creates Mini Melbourne within the City

Campus.

MELBOURNE April 7, 2017 Most passengers going through Swanston Street in

Melbourne CBD has experienced some difficulties with road closures within the
past months. Soon city-siders will see a mini module of Melbourne laneways on
RMITs City Campus for students and staffs to highlight one of Melbournes best
feature. As promised by New Academic Street (NAS), they promise to transform
the heart of RMIT.

RMIT City Campuss newest construction - NAS is in its final stage of completion
in late September this year. By upgrading and expanding the universitys
infrastructure, the urban architecture will provide more than 2000 new learning
spaces, retailers, outdoor terraces with natural lighting and hangout spaces - all
for the students and staffs to enjoy. Just like Melbournes laneways, RMITs
replication has provided RMIT students the latest facilities to enhance the RMIT
Communitys experience at the university.

We literally thought about Melbourne, so we did a whole series of analysis of

different laneways and arcades () We figured out the metrics of arcades and
laneways, how wide they were and how tall they should be. So, we use those two
to plan the spaces and to communicate to people why theyre that big, because
circulation space is precious, so it gave people a reference to check
places. Stated by Adam Pustola, senior architect of Lyons one of the architect
company for the NAS project when he was asked about his inspirations for this
precinct.

RMIT University once again, is challenging the status quo with its innovative
infrastructure and facilities. With this project, the university aims to highlight
their statement of being the leading university for architecture and design.
