Spring 2017

The following information are based on the NCHA and BASICS Aggregate
data sets. Demographic information derived from BASICS referrals can be
found in the LDOC Data 2017 analysis spreadsheet. Charts included in the
following pages will include a summary of the data shown.

The legend above was included to explain what prevention strategies


matched between the BASICS Aggregate dataset and the NCHA dataset.
There were other prevention strategies that showed a higher difference on
the NCHA dataset, but there was no match for them in the BASICS Aggregate
dataset.

Changes in use of Prevention Strategies
The purpose of this analysis was to determine the most widely reported
prevention strategies students used to mitigate excessive alcohol use when
students partied or socialized within the last 12 months and/or after having
attended BASICS sessions. The chart includes values based on student use
Most of the Time (MOT) and Always (AL), since the information in the
NCHA is based on those values. BASICS data appears first on the chart
(Before/After, MOT/AL). The NCHA data is expressed as years 2014 and 2016.
The change that occurred between BASICS student responses Before and
After session appear as MOT and AL. The chart also includes the
changes in NCHA responses from 2014 to 2016 as NCHA.

Summary
The highest changes among the prevention strategies based on BASICS data
were as follows:
