Dear Judges:
I chose this topic because I have been personally affected by the low minimum wage. Like many
students in high school, I started working when I was 16 at a summer job. I later found that it
was hard to pay for anything when you only make $7.25 for a few weeks in the summer. I then
got another job that I can hold all year. It came with more responsibilities but the same low pay.
It can be difficult for teenagers and adult to find jobs that require little skill and pay a reasonable
amount I hope that in time the minimum wage is raised to a reasonable rate so the future
generation doesnt have to struggle with finding jobs where they can support themselves with the
paycheck they earn.
The Senior Exploration process was relatively easy for me. I was able to find an abundance of
information on my topic and get input from community members. Most of the responses
corresponded to my research. Like my sources, many agreed with raising the wage and many
others were skeptical or disagreed. I also got to work with a local business owner ad saw what
went into running a successful business. I learned a lot from this experience and it gave me an
insight on how to run a business.
Thank you for your participation in the Senior Exploration and for willingly giving your time to
listen to my experience.
Sincerely,
Brittany Battista
