Competency Narrative #4

I have been at the same classroom for 7 months. I started creating

lesson plans since day 1. Theyve gone a long way since I started. While I do

think that there are still things to improve on, I do believe that my lesson

plans are now on par with many seasoned teachers. However, it did take a

while. I went from writing generic lesson plans using only worksheets on a

notebook to 7 page lesson plans that spans the entire week and shows how

each class has differentiated instruction.

While I passed the lesson plan assignments for my 578 and 452

classes, I did so because there was a rubric, and I received help. Those plans

were also created based on a very structured classroom. My lesson planning

skills were limited to Algebra 1 lesson plans, RSP lesson plans, and some

lesson plans I created for my classes and got an A on. I came into a

classroom in October with a very nave and optimistic view. However, a

classroom with no structure, no foundation, and no support from

administrators greeted me.

Its been a massive struggle. It took seven months, however, I was able

to create lesson plans that actively engaged students. I created lesson plans

that used different instructional strategies. As evident by my lesson plans, I

have made sure that there is some sort of visual, auditory, or kinesthetic

learning involved in my lessons. Now that Ive finally learned to do this, I will

be able to continue and perfect this skill for future classrooms.
