C O NVERSA TI ON 1

A: Did you hear about that hurricane in Miami last week?

B: I think so. A lot of people lost their homes, didnt they?
A: Thats right. They said it was going to take a long time to clean up.
B: Terrible. It really makes you stop and think, doesnt it?
A: Ill say. You went on vacation there once, didnt you?
B: As a matter of fact, I did. But that was a long time ago.

C O NVERSA TI ON 2

A: Did you hear about that banking scandal in Europe?

B: Oh, yeah. That was the one involving banks from six different countries, wasnt it?
A: Exactly. A lot of people lost their life savings because of it.
B: Ah, right. Now I remember. It really makes you angry, doesnt it?
A: It sure does. And the banks are claiming its not their responsibility.
B: They cant get away with that, can they?
A: Well, they might. But it wouldnt really be surprising, would it? Banks can pretty much get
away with anything.
B: How true. Its really shocking, isnt it?

B. Now role-play the conversations, paying attention to intonation of tag questions.
