Dear Professor Bruce,

Since the beginning of this course, my proficiency in writing benefited from the minimalistic
techniques discussed in the readings and assignments given this semester. Writing does not
always have to be long and drawn-out as long as one follows guidelines such as the ones
suggested by the six student learning outcomes(SLOs) given for this course. To demonstrate my
ability to follow these SLOs I have chosen two documents for my portfolio which include
revised versions of my annotated bibliography and my contributions my classmates assignments
with my peer review

By choosing my annotated bibliography, I can show how I used a majority of the SLOs
throughout the semester. In the introduction section of this assignment, I compare and
communicate my persuasive argument as well as the opposing argument to my position(SLO 3).
Furthermore, I address the argument in an organized way to address the rhetorical situation by
providing my argument with examples followed by the counter-argument to provide a more
objective perspective(SLO 1, 3, 4). With my references at the end of the document, I use the
APA format appropriate for this english course to ethically cite the sources I used to support my
position(SLO 2). Lastly, this document was reviewed by many fellow writers on the discussion
board as well as the instructor whos comments I all considered when revising my
document(SLO 6).

The second document I chose was the my peer review of the annotated bibliographies for two
other classmates. This inherently supports the collaboration aspect of the course(SLO 6), as we
were had to review each others writing to offer help. Making sure the assignment directions
were followed such as checking to make sure language sensitive to gender and cultural was used
following gender neutral language(SLO 5).

This course has improved my writing by encouraging me to write more efficiently. While this
usually means writing less than I am used to, following the six SLOs would help keep the
assignment at a higher writing level. I believe that the two documents I have chosen demonstrate
my development throughout the semester.
