Dear Dr. Bruce:

Thank you for a very enlightening semester. Your lectures and assignments have given me many

excellent opportunities to hone and expand my skills as a writer. I have compiled the documents

that I feel best display these skills and hope they demonstrate my mastery of the six student

learning outcomes outlined in your syllabus.

The team charter is the best example I have of collaboration (SLO 6) this semester. While peer

reviews initiate the exchange of ideas, our team-authored charter required my team to speak with

one voice. Reading the document now, it is difficult for me, one of the authors, to differentiate
between each writers input, as the end product flawlessly melds together all of our

contributions. The charter also shows my ability to use ethical citations (SLO 2) by referencing

both Markle and Wolfe using APA format.

My progress report does a thorough job of persuading (SLO 3) you that despite our challenges

with opening our device and scheduling meetings outside of class, our team was capable of

completing the project on time. By using bolded headings and appropriate use of white space, I

organized (SLO 4) the document in a manner which is easy to read and visually scan for specific

content. This layout, coupled with my use of professional language (SLO 5), demonstrates my

ability to recognize the rhetorical focus of my writing. While the progress report uses a formal

approach, the selection from my writer's notebook shows an ability to write informally, as it

narrates the stream of thoughts regarding the design of my resume (SLO 1).

I think the most valuable lesson I have learned in this course is the importance of revision.

Whether it is through peer review or simply revisiting a document later, I have learned that even

error-free writing can be improved. I look forward to using all of these skills and lessons in the

future as a student, as a professional, and as a writer in general.

Sincerely,

Eric Anderson
