Gary Irwin spun the wheel for a recent trip Update on the All-Access Park
to Yosemite as well as his recent golfing
escapades.
Brian South was happy about his
brothers recent trip to Hawaii and
particularly his newborn nieces first trip on
an airplane and fun in the sand and the
water.

Announcements

Al Simonsen is recovering from recent

foot surgery and hopes to be back at the
club next week.
Angelo Costanza announced that the
Camp Royal students will attend our
meeting next week.
Employee of the Month
The Playground Committee with Jay Ingram at the Commons
President Kevin Reneau noted that we
are crossing the finish line for our
fundraising efforts for the park. We will
continue to accept donations for the next
few weeks. There was a committee
meeting at the Commons with Jay Ingram,
the Town of Moraga Parks and Recreation
Director. Project timing was discussed
along with a proposed commemoration
plaque of contributors to the playground.
Andy Scheck, from the Lamorinda Weekly
took a picture for use in an upcoming
feature article in the newspaper.

Moraga Community Faire

One of the reasons for the high
attendance at our meeting this week was
the awarding of the Employee of the
Month for May to Loto Rickman from
Moraga Royale. Loto is well known to the
club with her help with board meetings,
Nite at the Races and other events.
Loto is an integral part of the Moraga
Royale family and provides great support
to the residents. Congratulations, Loto!
The Moraga Community Faire is this
Saturday at the Rheem Shopping Center.
Setup begins at around 9:30AM and the
faire goes from 11AM until 4PM. Give
Gary Irwin a call if you can help staff our
booth by talking to people in the
community and giving out and popping
free popcorn.

Moraga Rotary Field Day
Our 25th Annual Field Day for Moraga
Schools 3rd, 4th and 5th graders was held
yesterday at the Joaquin Moraga Middle
School. Thank you to all club members
and friends that came out to help. Thanks
as well to the 15 St. Marys Mens and
Womens Basketball teams (and coaches)
who volunteered. The exact attendance
will be figured out a bit later but we had a
great crowd at the event.

The Bocce Ball Event Approaches
Angelo Costanza lead a spirited practice
session last Friday where we ate pastries,
drank coffee, and rolled a few bocce balls
at the Martinez courts. John and
MarySue Erickson, Gary and Carol
Irwin, Joe Fitzgerald, Tony Schoemehl,
Frank May and John Tomei all had a
great time.
The tournament will be held in Martinez on
May 20th. Call Angelo if you have
questions or would like to participate.
Car Collection Tour May 24th at 10 AM
Barbara Bruner is organizing a visit by
Rotarians to her cousin Al Engles Hobby
House warehouse in Richmond full of 350
old classic cars, planes, motorcycles, and
wooden boats. Barbara will provide a map
and more information later. This is a
wonderful collection of cars and other
memorabilia. Plan to join us!

Clayton Valley Concord Sunrise 30th
Anniversary Event Last Friday Evening
Several club members attended the
Rotary Club of Clayton Valley Concord
Sunrise 30th Anniversary Dinner last
Friday evening. Dianne and Clyde
Wilson, Debbie and Lou Roessler,
Frank and Linda May, John and
MarySue Erickson and Tony Schoemehl
all enjoyed the evening. Our club was
featured in the program as a partner in
their efforts in the Clunker for Charity
Program.

Dianne Wilson introduced our speakers
today, Becky & Eric Baker. Becky, who is
Diannes sister, and Eric left successful
careers in finance and IT to help people
less fortunate than themselves.

to date and future plans for the project.
Our up-coming International Project is to
support and expand the home for the
orphaned children of Sierra Leone to
include a shelter in a safe location, proper
sanitation and a well for fresh water.

Through the generous donation of a large

motor home to Rotarys Second Chance
Clunkers program, and a partnership with
the Clayton Valley Concord Sunrise
Rotary Club, we are well on our way to
really getting this project moving.

Raffle:
Becky and Eric Baker at Our Meeting This Week
Our raffle winner today was Alsida
Canton. The slippery winning marble
Becky and Eric spoke of their work and escaped her and she was forced to accept
experiences in Sierra Leone, West Africa. the $10 consolation prize!
Their mission is to help provide food,
shelter, care, medical aid and emotional
support for the many children orphaned by
the Ebola epidemic.

They took us through the story of Bambay

Sawaneh in Sierra Leone. Bambay
suffered the loss of both of his hands as a
punishment for not fighting with rebel
forces when he was a young orphan. He
has worked through adversity to create the
Seattle FC (Football Club aka soccer)
that is the basis for supporting orphans
and other youth in his village. Much of the
needed help was because of the serious
Ebola crisis in Sierra Leone in 2014. The
Ebola crisis did not strike the very young
and the very old but killed healthy adults,
leaving countless young children
orphaned.
