To whom it may concern,

I am excited to be entering the teaching field and am excited to be entering the teaching field.
Three things have remained constant in my life: curiosity, athletics, and the pursuit of knowledge. I love
to learn. I began my studies at Chico State pursuing a major in chemistry and mathematics. As a self-
taught hobby guitarist, I dove into music theory, checking out and studying dusty old scores that seemed
like ancient tomes. I found a new perspective in the world through literature and music. I believe
English class can be more fun and exciting by exploring many subjects that are all related to reading and
writing.

I have discovered that my wide range of knowledge gives me a unique outlook on teaching and
learning. This wide range of interests allows me to connect with many types of students on different
levels. I am an activity-based learner and that is how I choose to teach. I spent four years after college
working with students with special needs. These four years taught me many valuable teaching traits:
patience, empathy and compassion, to name a few. As a lover of sports and nature, I decided to take my
teaching abilities to the slopes of Northstars Ski School. I worked with many age groups and groups
who didnt speak English. The mountain slopes can be crowded and dangerous. Parents entrust me with
their young ones to have fun, to learn, and give them a unique experience of a lifetime.

I have many passions in life and want to pass that passion to my students. I want to teach to kids
want to learn. I believe teachers have a responsibility to teach students about more than their subject in
school. I wish to instill a sense of community within my classroom and create an atmosphere with a
open door policy. If there is no one else to turn to, there should always be a teacher to lend a helping
hand.

Sincerely,
Kevin Briggs
