Directions: Create an advertisement for your favorite product or a product you would like to create. Use at least one of the persuasive
techniques (ethos, logos, pathos) to persuade your audience to use the product.
Brainstorm
Direction: After each member of your group has presented their brochure on Frederick Douglass, please complete one of the
extension activities below:
Compose an image or collage that highlights themes present in the narrative. Be sure to discuss, in a written response, what
these themes are. (You can use paper and draw/color or use an online source like Glogster)
Write a poem, song, essay, play, or short story that dramatizes a section of the narrative. If you choose a poem or song, be sure
to explain your choices in an additional written response.
Directions Please choose one or more of the tasks below to complete with regard to Black Boy and Richards mother!
1. News Reporter: Interview Richards mother and ask her to explain why she choose specific actions and how she feels about
events and other characters in the story.
2. Ask Column: Write a letter to Richards mother, offering advice.
3. Face Off: Create a mask for Richards mother where the facial expression on the mask suits her personality traits. Use
symbols!
4. Shakespearean Sonnets: Write a poem about Richards mother (actions, thoughts, feelings) and what kind of character she
was.
