SECURITY CARD HOLDERS
What did I let myself in for? I have just ordered another batch
of the RFID protective credit/debit card holders, having
already sold 1500 plus.
I am planning to keep a supply of the card holders, so if you
havent submitted an order yet, dont worry, I will have plenty
for the foreseeable future.
For those Coordinators not on email, therefore receiving this
Newsletter in the post, and possibly not yet aware of what
these holders are, I am including a separate sheet explaining
how you can protect yourself from criminals aiming to clone
your personal details by using these holders.
Please follow the enclosed instructions if you wish to order any
security card holders.

Stop nuisance phone calls for ever!
FIRST AID COURSE
A number of First Aid courses are being planned for
Coordinators and Contacts in spring 2017.
The aim of the courses will be to give sufficient
information and confidence to those attending, to
enable them to deal with medical emergencies that
they may come across in their day to day lives.
More information will be sent out as dates are
agreed. The venues are likely to be The Vassall
Centre, Fishponds, The Bridge Learning Campus,
Hartcliffe, and The Greenway Centre, Southmead.
Places will be offered on a first come first served
basis, so look out for information in the coming
months.
HALLOWEEN
Many elderly folk get worried over the
Halloween period and are frightened to answer their
doors after dark. Please remember that there are
posters available asking trick or treaters not to call.
If you would like some posters for elderly residents
in your scheme area, please contact your PCSO.

The summer season has now ended and Autumn is
Bristol NHW Network has been operating for five years. It has
upon us. Its time to make a few checks before the
supported Neighbourhood Watch groups across Bristol

Please would you now consider joining us? We need some
new Committee members to enable us to give schemes the
best advice and service across the city. We hold four evening

Committee meetings a year, spread across different areas of
Bristol, to make travel distances fair for all.
The crucial areas at present are Horfield/Lockleaze, St George,
Bedminster and Knowle/Filwood/Windmill Hill. There are no
committee members at all from these areas, so if you live in any
one of them, please consider volunteering. If you would like to
discuss this further before committing yourself, please either
get in touch by email on: bristolnhwnetwork.org.uk or give
Wendy a ring.
However, wherever you live we need you and would love to
hear from you if you would consider joining the committee.
AVON AND SOMERSET FORCE NW ASSOCIATION
The A & S force wide NW association took a substantial step
forward on the 13th August at the Steering Group meeting. The
Constitution was signed off by members of the Steering group
and Assistant Chief Constable Sarah Crew, who was delighted
at the progress made so far.
A number of meetings will be held in various locations across
the Force area to explain the process to all Coordinators, and
to give everyone an opportunity to become involved, so watch
out for your invitation.
Security lighting should be cleaned and checked to
make sure it is operating efficiently.
Check the condition of your electric blanket before
winter use, and never go to sleep with it left on.
Remember to put lights on timer switches if you are
likely to arrive home after dark or are going away on
holiday. A house that looks occupied is far less
attractive to burglars.
If you are going away, ask a neighbour or friend if
theyd be kind enough to draw curtains and put the
dustbin and boxes/bags out on the correct day, and
bring them in again once emptied.
Many animals are extremely nervous over
the firework period. Do try to keep them
indoors after dark.
Christmas shopping begins soon if it hasnt already.
Take care when using the internet to purchase
things. When paying for items by credit card, make
sure the site is displaying https: not just http: there
should also be a locked padlock sign showing.
Make sure Christmas presents laid out under the
Christmas tree or elsewhere cannot be seen by
people walking past your property. This could prove
just too tempting for the would be burglar!

STOP NUISANCE CALLS FOR EVER! YES IT IS POSSIBLE.

Are you bothered by nuisance calls, even after youve subscribed to the Telephone Preference Service? Never fear,
help is at hand. The BT8500 telephone gives you the ability to stop nuisance calls, even making your phone ring in
such a way that, unless you check the call log, you dont even know someone has called.
You just store up to 200 of your friends and family numbers into the phone and, unless you turn on the Do Not Disturb
feature, calls from these numbers come through as usual. You can specify any numbers from which you will accept
calls at any time so that they over-ride the Do Not Disturb setting.
Any callers from numbers not stored in your phone are asked to announce themselves. Once theyve done
that, your phone will ring and you will hear who is calling; you then have the option to accept the call, reject it
or divert it to the answerphone.
You can block up to 1000 numbers with the press of a button and that means that those calls will never come through,
although you will still see the number in your call log. You must subscribe to a Caller Display service for the block calls
feature to work, and this may incur a charge from your service provider.
Many nuisance calls are dialled by a computer, which is totally incapable of announcing itself, so those calls dont get
through at all.
I used to get about 15/20 nuisance calls a week now I dont get any!
