Good morning to all, today topic is H2s.

H2s is nothing but hydrogen sulphite, it is a

byproduct of hydrocarbon due to chemical reaction. Now we can discuss the
physical properties of h2s.

H2S,

1. High corrosive medium

2. Poisonous gas,
3. Flammable, u can see the blue flame on the flare
4. Color less,
5. Soluble in water
6. Smell like rotten egg
7. Heavier than air, so it will settle always at ground level

H2s measured by the unit of PPM (), 1% of h2s is equal to, ten thousand parts per
million of air.

You have to know, the consequence of h2s,

Headache, eye & skin irritation, throat & chest pain, blear vision, unconscious,
death

Location of h2s, likelihood present in process facility equipments such as tank

forms, valves, vessel, drain pit, launchers & receivers, open flanges, flare area,

Control measure, follow the PTW, access the risk, avoid to work under high h2s
environment, do continuous gas monitoring along with personal monitor, use
escape set or SCAP,

Emergency response,

Gas monitor will start to intermediate alarm when it detect 10 ppm, once alarm
rise, we have to stop our work & leave that place, need to be check wind direction,
and move to up or cross wind direction by brick walking, dont run, dont panic, get
very nearest emergency exists and report to assembly point.
