Time beyond the Classroom

Earlier this May, the John B. Dey 5th grade chorus put on a musical called Mighty
Medieval Men. A ton of my students were in the production and I couldnt have been more
proud. Some of the kids were in choir chimes and others were in strings and chorus. First, the
strings came on and played a few pieces for us. It made me realize how gifted these kids are
because I have no musical talent. Some of my kids were also in choir chimes and they came on
after strings. Their teacher was boasting about how perceptive these kids were and how they
didnt even need her to conduct. The kids performed their music flawlessly and I was really
impressed. Then, the actual musical began. The whole thing was a story about King Arthur, who
was played by a girl. She had an amazing voice and brought some extra entertainment to the
musical. The play had both damsels and knights. Some of the knights ware in my class and they
were very entertaining to watch when they were sword fighting. A ton of the damsels are also in
my class and they had on these medieval dresses that were awesome. One of the jesters was also
in my class and she was doing gymnastics. She scared me half to death when she randomly did a
backflip on stage. The story was about how King Arthur banned weapons and was solving the
Camelots problems with music. I got to see this musical twice and it got even better the second
time I watched. I was so proud of my students for all the hard work and time they put into this
awesome production.
