Costa Rica Kids

What are we doing?
I am going to Costa Rica this summer to volunteer with
underprivileged kids. As a class we are each going to bring in a
gently used children's book. So when each of you bring a book,
then everyone is going to decorate an envelope and write a letter
to a kid who is going to read the book you send to Costa Rica.
When?
I would like everyone to bring in a book next class and if you do
not have one Mrs. Cohen and I can get one for you.

The books and letters will be delivered over the summer when I
travel to Costa Rica in July.
Where?
These books and letters will be traveling to a community in
Costa Rica called Los Guido de Desamparados. This is a slum in
southern San Jose, which is the capital of Costa Rica.
Why?
Programs have been developed to create schools and one of the
only reason these kids go t school is to get their only meal of the
day. They live in a sometimes very dangerous place but through
different programs they are able to participate in sports, dance
and martial arts. We are sending them books and letters to help
further their education and to bring them joy through a new gift.
These kids don’t have very much and we are going to make sure
they now have something.
