Junior Monthly Focus: Mapping!
This month our focus theme is mapping. We will learn all about directions, maps, areas, etc. We will gain a greater understanding of the world through maps and geographic information. We will even make our own treasure maps!

Junior VIP's

We will begin our VIP program on October 10th. Your child will be given a chance to be a VIP for the week. We will use our small class size to our benefit and get to know each and every student. The students will be given a Handy Dandy Suitcase and the students will have a chance to fill it with four items to represent themselves. The students will have a sheet to fill out about themselves. I really look forward to learning more about your son or daughter! I have attached the VIP calendar.

The seniors have responded to the HELP WANTED sign with great enthusiasm. Their help will keep the school tidy, themselves responsible and hopefully give them a sense of ownership in their learning environment. Fantastic cover letters were crafted and many positions have been filled. You can now read some of these cover letters in the school's hallway. Their hard earned 'Big Bucks' can be spent October 20th at our first class auction. Many items have been sourced but donations are always welcome! As always: one person's junk is another person's treasure!

Last Month
We learned all about frogs! We were taught the life cycle, learned about local frogs, and frogs from all over the world. In art, we learned about inchie art. Inchie art consists of making small tiles and piecing them together to make one piece of art. Additionally, we created posters throughout the school. We created the rules together

as a school and made posters to represent the right and the wrong thing to do. I am sure you will see them located all around the hallways! Combining creative writing and art, senior-junior pairings have created Environmental Superheroes in both fiction and reality. You have likely seen our eco-characters fused from both organic and inorganic materials loitering in the hallway. Less obvious however is our slightly cleaner driveway and unreduced art budget. We hope to publish our equally interesting stories in the next couple weeks. Stay tuned and keep recycling!

Field Trip

On Tuesday, October 25th we are going on a field trip! Our first workshop is pending. We are waiting to hear back. Our second stop will be at the McMillan Farms Pumpkin Patch to take a pumpkin tour and choose our very own pumpkin (http://www.mcmillanfarms.ca/). We would like to have a couple of parent volunteers. If you are interested please let Mr. Bond or Ms. Liebel know. We will need probably 3 parents drivers. Thank you in advance! Also, if any siblings were interested they are welcome to come however they will be charged the same amount. That day will be a regular start day 8:30 -3:25pm.

Halloween:

On Tuesday, October 25th we will be heading to McMillan Farms in Kelowna for a pumpkin tour and to pick out our pumpkins. Then on October 26th we will carve our pumpkins using special safety knives. Then the students will be taking their Jack-o-Lanterns home. Monday, October 31st the children are invited to come to school dressed up in their Halloween costumes. We will be doing a variety of Halloween activities and centres in the afternoon starting at 1:00 pm.

BUG
Parents!! Being unusually good or BUG tickets are here! Focusing on positive behavior If you see any student of our school going out of their way to be kind, helpful, or thoughtful theres a way to reward this kind of GREAT BEHAVIOUR! Pick p a BUG ticket in the office. Write the students name on the ticket along with your name as nominator and the good deed you witnessed. At the end of the month, the names will be chosen from the BUG bin and students will be able to choose prizes. A bulletin board celebrating our monthly BUG winners will display our good behaviour! Nominate someone today.
