Dexter (m) Dexter is a happy chappie he is loving and friendly and just
wants attention, but is never pushy. He is submissive, but
protective of any other dogs that come too close to his
family. He plays at the park every day and prefers smaller
dogs to the larger ones. The ABSOLUTE highlight of his day
is mealtime. He has this little ritual he runs down the stairs
then back up and down again and finally back up and you
dont even need to tell him to sit, he has a smile on his face,
his tail is wagging and tongue hanging out. He doesnt like
eggs, but loves chicken/beef/lamb/FOOD J He is very laid
back, knows how to walk on the lead. He never knew what
playtime was or what a ball was used for slowly he is
learning to play. Its all about patience. He is not a barker, but
doesnt like people walking past. He knows who friends are
and he runs up and down howling his head off until they come
inside. He is fine to leave at home with a doggy friend, but will
cry his eyes out if you leave him alone. He is still learning that
you have to SIT in the car, but at least he now gets into it. He
is terrified if you shout, it doesnt have to be at him, but he
runs off with his tail between his legs. He doesnt have any
problem with thunder or fireworks. He favorite spots are In the
flowerbeds, in the sand, anywhere there isnt grass. I keep
telling him he lives in the suburbs now, he cant be a township
dog anymore J Oh and he just LOVES his kennel. Pushed
the pillow out of it and just wants to sleep on the carpet.

Marie (f)
Marie is a sweet and loyal companion who was thrown out
by her owner in Orange Farm Township after she had
puppies as she wasn't "needed" anymore. All her puppies
died except for 1 and Marie had lost all hope. In our
halfway house in the township Marie made friends with
Gift who she has an amazing bond with. Gift gave her the
confidence she needed to carry on with life. Today, Marie
is a happy, fun loving little girl who loves playing with other
dogs and is excellent with all people as well as kids. She
is not good with cats. Gift has since found a home but
Marie is still waiting.
Poppy (f)
Meet Poppy and exceptionally loving and affectionate dog. She is
around 2years old and is a medium/ large breed (size of a lab).
Poppy was rescued from a life of starvation and neglect. Yet
despite how humans have treated her she is such a loving &
affectionate dog. The change in her condition after being in foster
care for only a few weeks was remarkable! She does a little jump
dance when she knows its food time. Nothing makes her happier
than food and love.
Poppy is great with other dogs but not cats. She is easy to train
and already knows how to sit and give paw. She is extremely loyal
and loves going for car rides. She is extremely quick to learn and
is an obedient pooch. She loves experiencing all these new things
in life and takes everything in her stride. She is a really special girl.
If you would like to adopt poppy please email

Adult dogs looking for forever homes (over 1 year)
Milo (m) It was the day before Christmas when received a call
from Terry and Danger (now Milo) owners stating they
were no longer wanted because they have ticks. We
have known this little furry family since Danger was just
a pup. We treated both dogs at our vet every time they
were sick at no cost to the owners, sterilized them and
gave two huge kennels to them, took food on a regular
basis and each year a Christmas box all at no cost to
the owners.
Danger (now milo) was lucky enough to find himself an
amazing foster home but is looking for a permanent
family to give him the home he's always longed for. His
foster mom has this to say about him: When this little
white dog came to my house for the first time, he was
cautious and nervous. He seemed to feel out of place-
generally keeping to himself, not knowing where he is
allowed to be or what he is allowed to do.
But its been about a month and Ive seen how he has changed and grown. He has made good
friends with our four dogs (2 Golden Retrievers- 1 male and 1 female. And 2 Yorkshire Terriers,
both males). So he is good with small and big dogs, males and females. He was exposed to
little children of age 2 and 5, and while a bit baffled by the loud noises they could sometimes
make, he was very comfortable around them. He is also good with cats. His intelligence is
remarkable, learning very quickly how things work in our household and what is expected of
him. He gets very excited about food, and while he is not aggressive at all, he struggles a little
bit with the concept of your turn, now your turn and now your turn but hes starting to grasp it. I
am proud to say I have taught him to sit with a hand motion and command. While he has never
growled at people, he has growled at our dogs when they came too close to his food. I think this
was just to tell them that it is his food, and our dogs backed off and that was that.He is very
loving- happiest when close to you. He loves his new bed and sleeps on it next to your couch
for hours. He can also be playful and energetic at other times. He loves going for walks. When
you pet him he leans into your touch, clearly seeking the contact. He loves kisses and cuddles.
Hes always so happy to see you. If he goes into a home with other dogs, he just needs to be
shown that all the dogs will get attention so that he doesnt get jealous. Our Golden Retrievers
sleep downstairs in the back kitchen on their beds. He hated being kept in there with them to
sleep at night. I think he gets nervous when closed into a room. But he has calmed down a lot
and seems to have accepted that the kitchen is where he sleeps and he will be let out again in
the morning. His name when he came to us was Danger, but we felt that this name didnt suit
him at all. His loving, playful nature doesnt fit with it. So my family and I changed it to Milo. He
now responds to it and we feel it is perfect for him. He would be a wonderful addition to any
family and if I didnt have four dogs already I would keep him myselfIf you can help please email

Shandy (m)
Shandy is the MOST incredible and loving dog who
has been bounced around from pillar to post since
he was a small boy. When he first came into our
care he was tired, sick, neglected and had one of
the worst cases of mange we had ever seen.
However, under the love and care of his foster mom
he emerged as a happy, playful and sweet natured
puppy. The day he found a home we were over the
moon for him and thought he had found his happily-
ever-after. Unfortunately it did not turn out like that
and he was returned to us as a fully grown boy - for
hurting a cat, as a pup months earlier. We were a
bit nervous about the dog he might have become -
growing up in a not so ideal environment but we
need not have worried.
Shandy is stil OUR Shandy. The same loving, sweet natured, sociable boy we love and
remember. His journey is this - from township, to foster care, to being adopted, to being
returned, into private kennels while we looked for a foster home, back into foster care...and
there he sits...roughly 12 months later...still waiting for his FOREVER home. Shandy has done
NOTHING to deserve the treatment he received in the township nor from the family that
previously adopted him! Shandy has strong German Shepherd traits and just LOVES everyone
he meets. He is only about a year and a half and wants to play and snuggle all the time. He is
super affectionate and brilliant with kids! He's also got loads of energy and enjoys chasing
balls and bringing them back to you. He's extremely intelligent and learns new commands very
quickly. He is also alert and is always the first one to notice someone at the gate or something
unusual. Shandy is great with other dogs but shouldn't be with smaller dogs in a home
environment. He can jump though so high walls would be a must for him. His ideal home
would be a secure home with one or 2 other medium sized dogs (knee height) that are friendly
and easy going. A family that will enjoy doing things with him is a must. Shandy loves going on
walks and playing rough and tumble with other dogs. He is very well housetrained and has no
food aggression. He really is the ideal big dog to take on runs with you in the park and have as
a companion at home. Unfortunately he is not good with cats. But other than that - he's pretty
darn close to perfect. He has so much love to give and honestly is the perfect family dog! So
well adjusted! Our one dream would be to see him happy and settled in a home that will love
him and treasure him FOREVER. Please if you are looking for an overall, well rounded dog -
consider adopting Shandy. Email jhb@pets.org.za to apply.

Skye (f) Skye was found abandoned and tied to a cage in our camp in
a township called Weilers farm. She was terrified, covered in
motor oil and barbed wire stuck in her leg. We can see this
girl has not had an easy life from the scabs on her body, her
missing teeth and desperation in her eyes yet despite her
terrible past- Skye is the most trusting and loving dog. She
deserves a family who will appreciate her and love her
forever. Skye is a small breed (the size of a long legged jack
russel), we estimate her to be around 3/4 years old. She is
excellent with other dogs and children but has not been
tested with cats yet. She is a low energy dog who loves to be
pampered and given lots of love and attention and she also
loves to play with other dogs. She is toilet trained and very
well mannered. Skye has the gentlest soul. When she comes
for a pat she closes her eyes and cherishes every second of
attention she gets. We never want her to feel unloved or
unwanted ever again. If you can offer Skye a loving
FOREVER home please email lauraw.pets@gmail.com

Tobie (f)
Tobie was thin and frail when "Pets" found her, she was
hardly able to stand on her long legs and needed to have
help and support which she received through at our
shelter, today she is strong and healthy and ready to
love and to be loved.

LOOKING FOR A FOSTER/FOREVER HOME
Eliot was very sick when "Pets" was asked to help him, he
was malnourished, had an autoimmune disease and a
hematoma on the elbow, he has spent more than a
month at "Pets" clinic and is still an enigma as to why he is
not recovering and is still receiving medical care.

Puppy (m)
2 years old
Medium size
Mix breed/ sitehound genes
Jack (m) Jack is a 2 year old cross Ridge Back who was
surrendered to us when he severed his cruciate
ligament, he has now fully recovered and is a truly
amazing dog full of fun and energy, he loves other dogs
(even small dogs) and people and will share his food
and toys willingly. He craves attention and will do
anything to please you. He also loves his toys and is a
quick learner. Jack just needs a chance to show the
world what a great dog he is and cant wait to meet the
person or family with whom he can spend the rest of his
life. He does have severe hip dysplasia but its not a
functional problem. He experiences no pain from it
currently and if it did advance to the point where he
needed a hip op, PETS will cover it provided its done at
our vet.
Ranger (m) Ranger is a boy EXTREMELY special to us. Why you may
ask? Because he was the second dog we ever helped in
the township since PETS JHB began 5 years ago. Every
so often, we would go visit him to see how he's doing, take
him a Christmas box and for a few minutes give him the
love he deserves. It didn't matter how long we hadn't seen
him for- each time we went back he remembered us. An
animal never forgets those who show them kindness.
Each time we would go- our stomach would knot as we
didn't even know if he would still be alive. Last week we
decided to go see him again. When we finally found him
again- he was chained up behind the shack in a narrow
ally. No water, bowls we had given crusted with mud, an
empty petrol container lying in his kennel, blankets filthy.
We broke down and cried. The lady at the house came out
to see who this strange person was hugging this dog and
sobbing uncontrollably. We found out from her his owner
moved to Klerksdorp and left him behind and she couldn't
afford to feed him. His owner had never really cared for
him. Merely keeping him so he would have a dog that
would bark if an intruder came in. His whole life he has
lived on a chain and been out of sight and out of mind. We
asked her if we could have him and she agreed. We
couldn't get the chain off him so we took the entire collar
off. He's been chained for 5 years! He wasted no time in
running straight to the car and climbing in. He's safe now.
Finally!
Bonnie (f) & Clyde (m) Our one wish would be to find this amazing, gorgeous,
loving sibling duo their happily ever after and home to
call their own before Christmas. They deserve to spend
a real Christmas with their very own family. We have
had them in foster care for 8 months and no one has
ever applied to adopt them and we simply cannot
understand why.
They are about a year old and must be rehomed
together. Apart from being brother and sister they are
the very best of friends who do everything together and
are never far apart from one another. They have had to
have each others backs their whole lives. Clyde is an
extrovert with other dogs but shyer around humans!
He's outgoing and always game for whatever's going
on. He loves playing soccer and trips to the park,
rolling in the autumn leaves and paddling in dams and
mud! He is also very good in the car. He looks like a
little fox with this tiny face and fluffy mane. He is too
pretty to be a boy! Bonnie is not as outgoing as her
brother but she is extremely affectionate and loving.
She is a real princess and really loves the comforts of
life like relaxing on the couch and on a picnic blanket
outside. Both are great with other dogs and love to
play. They are surrounded by 30 other dogs daily and
so are used to dogs of all shapes and sizes. They fill
our lives with laughter and fun and are guaranteed to
bring you years of love, laughter and joy. Please
consider giving this little sibling pair the forever home
they deserve they have so much love to give!

Taffy (f) You have to wonder what this beautiful girl has endured in
her short life. She is pretty, intelligent and loves to play with
the other dogs, especially tug of war and chasing each
other around the garden.
The same will happen when she goes to her new home, as
she is petrified of changes in her environment and new
people but with patience, understanding and a lot of TLC
she will become just as comfortable as she is in her foster
home now. It just takes her a week or 2.
Whitey (m)
Our precious boy Whitey is STILL looking for his forever
home. Words cannot begin to describe how special this
boy is. Although he's only 3 it's like he is a wise old soul
who can see into the depths of your soul. These pictures
show how amazing and loving he is. He just wants love
and affection and has so much to give! He loves to play
with other dogs, and his favorite thing in the world is to go
for walks!
He's been in foster care since about February this year
after someone tried to kill him with 2 step poison.
The names Mafia. I come from a hood called Orange farm township. Back there things were bad,
dawgs were being poisoned around me, bloodsuckers swarming the hood- one time they almost took
my life (the humans call them ticks). My family tried their best to look after me but life was just too
tough. One thing is for sure, they loved me enough to do what was best for me. They gave me to a
man they call "the dogfather" he is going to guide me on my path to what they call "my forever home". I
turned up at the dogfather house and I was a bit freaked out at first. They had these weird things they
seem to call stairs and they were dead tall. I wasnt up for that at first, but then I worked out at the top
there were nice comfy beds and awesome belly rubs. Seriously fellow dogs its worth the climb. Im
only small so its a long way, but I do have these weird gangly legs which help me bounce up stuff like
a spring lamb.mmmmm laaaamb. sorry got distracted. Stay on page Mafia. Being in cars. I
totally love them. I dont know why but if I knew what surfing was I think it would be like that. Yeah, car
surfing, is that a thing? I love standing on the seat and leaning into the corners so I dont fall over.
Sometimes I get it wrong but I blame those darn taxis getting in the way all the time so my human has
to brake sharply. I reckon it wont be long before they let me drive though so I can get my revenge I
like going out for walks too. Walks are cool. I dont stray away from the dogfather and his gang much
though cos I dont want to get lost and risk losing all those belly rubs or the chance at accomplishing
my mission to find the forever family. Ive even walked past these massive things with 4 legs, long tail
and REALLY long faces before (horses?) and I was cool with it. I went to the 947 to watch recently too.
I didnt bark there either. Those poor people being forced to sit on those machines. They looked like
they were in real pain so it would be unfair to make extra noise. I dont bark that much to be honest. I
sometimes have a go but my barks not really that manlyits a bit more high pitched than people
expect. My names Mafia dudes and dudettesI need to be the strong silent typelike a boss so to
speak I do bark at strangers coming into the house though- gotta protect the family. Im a dog, its my
job. But I chill out when the humans say so. I like living with the dogfather and his dawgs, I would do
though because I'm very social and get along with pretty much all of the dog types I meet. Im not
digging the ones they call cats. They smell funny and Ive not really hung much with them. I mean, who
knows if they even like belly rubs like I do? Therefore I have made it my mission to chase them - cos
its fun. So here it is- I'll make you an offer you can't refuse. Help me accomplish my mission of finding
my forever home and I'll be your friend for life! If you would like the perfect house mate, can supply
some decent foodAdultsevery day looking for Im
(I like Acana, forever
classy), homes (overthe
regular bellyrubs, 1 year)
odd walk and a comfy
bed Im in. Apparently the humans have to do a home check and all that stuff but you can email the
dogfathers secretary to work it out. Whatever email is. How would I know..Im a dog!

Bailey (m)
We rescued Bailey early in December from Orange
Farm Township. He had been burnt with boiling oil and
was on severe pain. On top of that he had a type of
cancer called TVT which is a sexually transmitted form
of cancer common to dogs who are unsterilized! His
wounds are STILL healing but he is doing well and we
are proud to say he is now cancer free! Sadly as is
often the case - and in Bailey's case - when we first
rescued him - the post about his injuries went viral with
everyone wanting to help and now that he is almost
back to normal - no one is interested anymore:( This
boy is such an incredible soul who has fought long and
hard to survive and now really needs our help more
than ever so he can finally find a loving family to start
over in! BAILEY stands for: B - Beautiful Nature A -
Acquescent I - Intelligent L - Loving and Loyal Y -
Yearns for love There just aren't enough words to
describe this beautiful soul. He is calm, placid, and
loves to play and run! Bailey is so smart - he has learnt
how to sit and is almost able to give you his paw in just
2 weeks. He is very obedient and hardly ever
misbehaves. The most amazing thing about Bailey is
how much love he wants from humans considering
what he has endured. He is great with children and
dogs, but not the best with cats. If you give Bailey
loves then nothing else in this world matters. And his is
a BIG Cuddler! What this boy needs most now is a
home to call his own. He didn't fight so hard to survive
for his story to not have an incredible ending. Please
email jhb@pets.org.za to apply to adopt him.

Rebecca (f)
Hi, My name is Rebecca, people call me Becka for short. I am a mix breed around 4/5 years
old
3 years ago I was rescued from a township called orange farm after I was hit by a car. I
recovered well and then I was rehomed to a lovely family who showed me what it was like to
be loved. Although I was grateful I had to share all this new found love with 2 other dogs and
a child, this made me sad. I tried my best to share but in the end I realized it's just not in my
nature. I've had years of being ignored and neglected and now all I want is love, all to
myself.
I need a home where I don't have to compete for attention with other animals or children.
Kids over 10 are allowed because I like attention from them as well. One other male dog
would be ok as long as my owner teaches me that I'm not the boss. I enjoy having a social
life and I love trips to the park to meet new Doggy friends and sprint around. Even though I
don't like living with other dogs or kids, I am ok with them outside my home. I walk really well
on lead as well.
My previous family are so sad to let me go because they say I really am a special dog who is
so loyal and loving as well as well behaved. I guess we were just not the right match, I know
my perfect family are out there.... I just need some help finding them. Please share my story
and help me find my forever home so I can start loving again
I am currently in a temporary Foster home that can only keep me until the end of the week,
as I had to leave my previous home after arguments with my sister, we decided we don't like
each other anymore. I urgently need to find a home as I will be going to kennels on Friday if I
don't! And I really don't want to go there :(
Mouse (m) Mouse was knocked over by a "hit and run" driver in
Orange Farm and left injured badly by the roadside,
nobody helped him and he was left lying there for several
days, luckily he was able to drag himself home where his
owner discovered that a hind leg was broken, we were
alerted to Mouses' injury and went to fetch hiim The head
of Mouses' femur had been broken off, fortunately the vet
was able to save his leg, he now walks with a limp that
will improve as his muscles strengthen with time and
exercise we are told.
Mouse is now fostered by a lady that teaches many
disciplines in the " Arts" and is constantly meeting new
people as they come and go for their lessons, he gets on
with old and young alike, everybody loves him as he has
become quite a character, he is good with other dogs
and loves going for walks and socializing in the park,
Mouse would fit in everywhere as he is a the perfect
family dog.
To adopt mouse pls email glendapickering@gmail.com
Jessie (f)
We got Jessie as a foster about 2 months ago, when she
arrived you could see she had had a hard life, she was
very scared of people and was very timid.
Please note that all adoptions are pending a home check and there is
an adoption fee of R600 which includes a microchip, deworming, up to
date vaccinations (thereafter is on your own account) and sterilisation
if they are over 6 months. Puppies that are adopted under 6 months
will need to be sterilised when they reach 6 months- this can be done
at your private vet or at one of our vets for an additional R450.
