Abstract

The following review is about the Nevada School Board Meeting on September 8, 2016.

School Board Meeting

While observing the school board meeting on the 8th of September 2016 there were a few

major moments in the discussion. The first discussion were the public comments that were

discussed. The first one was the resignation of the head of the special education board because of

ignoring the needs of the special needs students and never assessed. The second discussion was

the issue of the mercury issue in a middle school. The one who brought up the issue was a parent

of a child who stayed overnight at the school, he wants more professionals to be there explaining

to the parents the situation instead of waiting with no answers. His proposal is for when another

crisis happens he wants a professional giving them insight on whats happening. The third issue

was with bullying in schools. A mans daughter committed suicide from bullying and the schools

have done nothing to ensure students dont take the same action as she did.

The second main topic that was discussed was the issue of recruitment of not good

teachers. He focused on the recruitment of new teachers from BYU schools. The teachers

recruited have not finished their three-year student teacher assessment while there are other

teachers who are fit. After the conversation of the recruitment issue there are standardized tests

that are being tested on special education students damaging their education. Both of these issues

have been stated before in the school board meeting along with the same man presenting the first

statement about the dismissal of the head of special education.
