Topplegeist

There is a chef located on the edge of town who is almost at a breakthrough for developing Resist
Shadow Food (Stuffed Apples). However, all of his ingredients and his cooking utensils have been
knocked over every night and hes out of ingredients. He needs help to figure out what the heck is going
on and in addition to retrieve more ingredients.

Friday night this dejected chef will approach the tavern and bemoan his fate. Hopefully hook some of
the low levels into figuring this out. The chef will need to convince them that all of his stuff seems to get
knocked over every time its all put back in the right places. Many empty containers will be set up
around a cabin and the players must put them all back into standing positions. This whole time an OOG
NPC (fishing wire if we can get it) will be knocking things over once they are ALL back in place. The NPC
will have no effect on the players but they will hear a childs voice saying Its not the same and This
isnt as fun as it used to be I wish I had my OWN toys back

The chef will hint that perhaps the child wishes to play with some toys like his daughter used to, but all
he has is blocks. To actually summon the Topplegeist, the players will have to arrange some sort of
block tower for the Topplegeist to topple. This will be sufficiently fun enough that the Topplegeist will
appear and ask if they know of any other toys like this. The Spirit will ask if the players can retrieve its
own toys, at a nearby village that the chef will inform them was lost to the Shadow months ago. This will
lead into a small module to retrieve the toys and in addition the chef will provide a list of ingredients
that must be gathered if he is to perfect his recipe. The ingredients will be on randoms and hidden
about site (more on this in a moment). The toys, once retrieved, will show the characters how to let the
spirit move on but this must be done at night, as that is the only time the Topplegeist comes out.

Ingredient list:

Shroud of a Riverwraith (event location River gyser)

Shadow Hound Flank (anytime Shadow hound randoms are sent out, we will include this generic item
tag if players ask for it when looting)

Apples

The module below is the actual trip to retrieve the toys.

Topplegeist Mod Part 2

Players will venture out past the barrier. The first thing they notice is what during the day all they can
really see on the horizon is what looks like a wasteland. Its odd since this place is so close to the water
that it looks so barren. However, since they are still close to the barrier, they will NOT take the planar
effect of Acheron while on this module.

First thing they will come across is a pack of Shadow Hounds

Gaunt Hounds x6
15 Hit points
20 Natural Armor
Single long weapon (4 Plague)
+2 Strength
Animal Intelligence
Vulnerable Spirit
Resist Toxin x 1
Shadowy Gaunt skinned dog
(3 Copper)

As they continue down the path they will come across an empty river bed, long since dried up. The cracked ground
crunches under their feet as they descend into the river bed, while trying to climb out, some of the roots they use to
try and climb out come to life and try to constrict the players to sate their thirst for blood.

NPCs will stand right next to half the players (chosen at random) for the beginning of this fight, there is no come into
game count for this and they will immediately engage in combat upon the Lay On.

Shambling Mound Stats here.

After the killer vines have been defeated, the PCs will continue down the road to see a small ruined hamlet in the
distance. As they approach, ravens can be seen atop the roves and their screeches are the only sound braking up
an otherwise silent nightmare of a scene. Doors torn off hinges, whole houses torn apart by some kind of giant
monster, and ruined burned out husks of wooden houses are all that remains of this once proud town.

As the PCs approach the town, the moment they step into the main road the ravens on the roof tops take flight and
attack.

After defeating the Alfred Hitchcock masterpiece, they will need to investigate the towns to see if they can find
anything. Tracking will help to identify that only 3 houses in this place had childrens footprints going in and out of
them. If not, they will have to search each house individually. (have them walk around the Mod building and then
enter each time, out of the 6, 4 are occupied by something and 2 are empty. Cut all these in half if they have
tracking)

The toys turn out to be a package of Dominoes with a small instruction manual, the only page of which that remains
details how to set up the dominoes for an awesome toppling display.

On the way back to town, there is another pack of hounds that the PCs will encounter:

Gaunt Hounds x6
15 Hit points
20 Natural Armor
Single long weapon (4 Plague)
+2 Strength
Animal Intelligence
Vulnerable Spirit
Resist Toxin x 1
Shadowy Gaunt skinned dog

Total Treasure 208 Copper + Whatever shambling mound treasure is.

Once the PCs get back to town and deliver all the ingredients to the chef he will wait for them at his house until the
evening. They will need to set up the dominoes in the arranged pattern and if done correctly and they all fall as
theyre supposed to, the Topplegeist will be free to move on and each person will get a Stuffed Apple for a 1x resist
shadow when consumed and the group will receive a copy of the recipe (minor Food recipe)
