Objective: The student will be able to determine the meaning of the given vocabulary words of the weekly story.

Discuss meanings of words and develop vocabulary.

Story: Yeh Shen
Activator:
Today I will..learn new vocabulary words that go along with my weekly reading story.
So that.I will be able to read more fluently.
I know Ive got it when I can.identify 6 out of 8 vocabulary words correctly.
This is important to me because.I want to become a better reader and understand the words I am reading.
Procedures:
1. Students will complete daily proof reading practice page #1 independently for about five minutes.
2. The teacher will lead a review of daily proof reading practice page #1 with student input.
3. Students will put daily proof reading practice page into their Reading/Center Folder.
4. Teacher will then ask students why is it important to learn new words?
5. Students respond to teacher question by raising hands and sharing answers.
6. Activator: The teacher will then write the vocabulary words on the board (task, glimmering, served,
content, overjoyed, worn, concealed, valuable) The teacher will then ask the students if any of the
vocabulary words are familiar or have heard of them before. Students share.
7. Teacher will then share the Smartboard vocabulary definitions with students. Teacher and students will
then discuss vocabulary card and how it relates to themselves.
8. Teacher will then pass out the book Yeh Shen to students teacher will ask students who has ever heard
or read the story of Cinderella?
9. Students will share answers and things about the story of Cinderella.
10. Teacher will then tell the student they will be reading a story called Yeh Shen which is a Cinderella story
from China.
11. Teacher and students take a picture walk of Yeh Shen
12. Review/Summarizer: Students will review the vocabulary words list on the board.
Criteria for Success: Students will correctly match the vocabulary word to its definition with their group. 6 out
of 8 (75%)
