9. Reflection:
Taking a look back at my reading lesson, there are many things I would go back and
change. I felt like I didn't have the control of the group that I had hoped for. During the
lesson, I felt and saw that I had to stop my lesson abruptly to quickly address a
behavior issue. The kids have been unusually antsy and hyper lately, it could possibly
be because Ms. Leppert has been out the last 2 days. I have noticed some students have
tried to push as much as they can with me. I try my best to be firm and assertive, but I
definitely need more practice. As far as the lesson itself, I had a couple of students who
were still a bit confused and were unsure of what a harness was. Next time I will be
more prepared and have additional visual for the kids to be able to visual see, to allow
them to make that connection to prior knowledge. I went off the iready teacher
resource book, but I think next time I can try to find a different story than the one the
book is referencing. I think iready can sometimes be irrelevant, when it comes to the
students’ age, so I think finding some back up stories or examples can help in
situations where some students may need additional cues to help their learning. I am
hoping to continue improving my classroom management skills as well as ensuring I
obtain additional examples for my students. Being firm and assertive can be so hard
when the kids are all so cute! But for my sanity, I need to build more skills in
classroom management.
