Pretest/Posttest & Mastery Matrix Process 16-17

It is expected that you give each unit/chapter pre and posttest.

1. Create pretest:
a. Grades 2-5:
i. Math teachers: Email Ms. Dana the standards that you need included in your pretest.
Give the date of when you want the students to take it. She will create test and then
push it out to your students on that date. When the students get on the computer
that day, the first thing they will do is complete the pretest.
ii. Reading teachers: Email Ms. T. the standards that you need included in your pretest.
Since there are MANY standards in your unit choose 4 or 5 standards. Give the date
of when you want the students to take it. She will create test and then push it out to
your students on that date. When the students get on the computer that day, the first
thing they will do is complete the pretest.
b. Grades K and 1:
i. Reading
1. 16-18 questions
2. 1 passage w/4-5 questions
3. 4 high frequency words
4. 5 phonics/vocabulary skills
5. 3 convention/grammar
ii. Math
1. 16-18 questions
2. Pretest Analysis
a. For grades K and 1: Give math pretests to Dana. Give reading pretests to Mrs. T.
i. We will grade them and fill out analysis sheet about missed and correct
answers we will return them back to you in a timely manner.
b. For grades 2-5: Use IReady standards mastery reports (Until standards mastery tests
are available give reading pretests to Mrs. T. and math tests to Dana)
c. Mastery Matrix development: choose one standard students had difficulty mastering.
Complete deconstruction and mastery matrix sheets. 12 questions total . (6 DOK 2, 6 DOK
3)- Submit to Mrs. T. *You already have at least 3 standards with questions per unit (for
reading) and one or two standards per chapter (in math) that you did the last two school
years.
i. Reading do a standard you have not done yet.
ii. Math since you have limited standards per chapter create 12 new questions
or tweak the ones you already have (use the question feedback sheet from
PLCs for suggestions)

It is expected that you use the higher level questions you created in your instruction.

3. During instruction:
a. Use the 12 questions in your instruction. Walkthroughs will be conducted to measure
frequency and levels of questions used.
4. Create/Give post unit assessment. (If IReady standards mastery tests are not available -give the same
questions for your posttest as you did on your pretest)
a. For post assessment only Select 1 (DOK 2) and 1 (DOK 3) question from your
mastery matrix and add them to post assessment. *notate which ones are your
mastery matrix questions.

Grades 2-5: This will be done paper pencil (your assessment through IReady will be electronic
you wont be able to add these to the electronic version). Give these results to Mrs. T.
All I need is the question and a percentage of mastery for your class (as a whole) for each
question. (Not individual percentages)

b. Grades K and 1 - If you would like me and Dana to grade and put your results on a
spreadsheet, we can do that. Submit post unit results to Mrs. T. If Dana does your
spreadsheet, she gives me a copy of post assessment results.

We will continue our 10 minute meetings monthly.

Please take advantage of me and Dana concerning grading your pre/post unit assessments. We want
to help you all that we can.
