Entering The Classroom

Explain
State the procedure:
Today we will learn how to enter the classroom each day.

General rationale:
It is important to learn how to enter the classroom because we will be doing it every
day. We will need to know where to walk in, place our backpacks, and where to sit.
It is very important to walk in safely and silently.
Explain and model the procedure:
1. Quietly enter through the classroom door and stay in your line
2. Place ALL belongings (backpacks, lunch boxes, books, etc.) on the assigned
shelf
3. If the board says to have a pencil for the day, take one from the pencil cup
before sitting
4. Go to your assigned seat on the rug quietly
5. Sit criss cross applesauce and wait for instructions

Check for understanding:
What step do I do first?
Where do I put my belongings?
What do I do once my belongings are put up?
What should I do when I get to my seat?

Rehearse
Practice the procedure:
Two students will model the procedure while the rest of the class observes
silently. If one of the students misses a step, the class will quietly raise their
hand and show them the step they missed.
Then groups of 4 (grouped by rows on the rug) will take turns modeling the
procedure.
Give specific feedback:
Great job on placing all of your belongings on the assigned shelf and going to your
assigned seat quietly! Make corrections if needed.

Reinforce
Reteach, practice, and reinforce:
It is important to have students follow this procedure daily throughout the year.
Remind students of the procedure. Praise students who follow the procedure
perfectly. If a student does not follow the procedure, go over what step was missed
and have them do it again.
