In an article released by economic advocacy body Arangkada Pilipinas back in

October 2016, it was reported that the World Bank, while lauding the 10-point
socioeconomic agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte, expressed concerns about
uncertainty in their direction.

The problem, as it appears here, is that the long-term prospects of the

administration's economic policies are yet unclear. This will adversely affect the
decision-making processes of potential investors, who would of course prefer a clear
economic roadmap in both the short and long terms.

Indeed, said the World Bank, the details of these policies and their implementation
strategies are still under discussion, [which means that] businesses are likely to
maintain a cautious approach toward investment and expansion.

What the administration has to do, the World Bank suggested, would be to take
swift and decisive action to confirm its commitment to its stated priorities and dispel
any lingering policy uncertainty.

This, among others, is perhaps why the administration came up with the AmBisyon
Natin 2040 roadmap, touted by the National Economic and Development Authority
(NEDA) as the collective long-term vision and aspirations of the Filipino people for
themselves and for the country in the next 25 years; a concise plan of action laying
out economic policy benchmarks for the public to see and know.
