AVID IS A PROGRAM THAT PREPARES STUDENTS FOR FOUR-YEAR COLLEGE ELIGIBILITY AND CAREER READINESS
TO BE MARKETABLE IN FUTURE WORK FORCE.

STUDENT LONG TERM GOALS:


1. ACADEMIC SUCCESS IN COLLEGE PREPARATORY COURSES.
2. SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF HIGH SCHOOL/COLLEGE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS.
3. ENROLLMENT IN 4-YEAR COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY AFTER HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. MAINTAIN ENROLLMENT IN ADVANCED COURSES Students must be in one advanced or high school
credit course.
2. MAINTAINS CS OR HIGHER IN ALL CLASSES. If student drops down below a C in ANY class the
student will be put on probation and must attend at least 1 hour of tutoring per subject. If the student continues to
maintain the grade student can be removed from the program.
3. MAINTAIN SATISFACTORY CITIZENSHIP AND ATTENDANCE IN ALL CLASSES This includes
following dress code regulations as given by the school as well as back pack policies. Students must learn to
follow uniform regulations as if they will need to in the future in their careers.
4. COMPLETE HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS AND COMMIT TO AT LEAST 1 HOUR OF NIGHTLY
HOMEWORK. This could be used as their Khan Academy time at least once per week, even if they dont have
an assignment due students should be reviewing their notes or working on their topics in Khan Academy.
5. MAINTAIN THE SCHOOL BINDER IN THE EXPECTED FORMAT, WITH A SECTION FOR AVID.
The student must carry a multi course binder with supplies to each class and keep it organized to include
homework assignments as well as agenda and tutorial interactive notebook.
6. USE TUTORIAL TIME TO GAIN UNDERSTANDING FOR ACADEMIC CLASSES Students must use
tutorial time in class to help others understand core course topics as well as use time to work through struggling
material with peers in their group. This is not time to play around or walk through the process on something you
already know. If you are not struggling in class find an SAT question you are having trouble with from Khan
Academy or an ASVAB question from www.asvabpracticetests.com. They may also use questions they have
from creditable sources. (ex. Documentaries, articles they read, field trips)

STUDENT AGREEMENT:
I ACCEPT ENROLLMENT INTO THE AVID ELECTIVE CLASS, WHICH OFFERS ACADEMIC SUPPORT TO ME. I
UNDERSTAND THAT I MUST TAKE INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY OWN SUCCESS. IF I FAIL TO DO SO, I
MAY BE IN JEOPARDY OF PROBATION OR REMOVAL FROM THE CLASS. I UNDERSTAND I AM COMMITTED TO THE
CLASS FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR, AND WILL BE ELIGIBLE TO REAPPLY TO REMAIN IN THE PROGRAM AT THE
END OF THIS YEAR.
