degree holder and those who did not go to college striving for a higher position and
increase in salary.
4. The companys ability to hire or recruit professionals that will hinder old employees
who lack formal education to be promoted.
5. The firms change of policy that lead to only college graduates are considered to be
promoted on the senior management position.
III. Recommendations on Effective Solutions/Strategies

1. Mr. Merrill can get some units in Business Management while he is still working so
that he can earn a degree on the later run.
2. The divisional vice president can promote Mr. Merrill on a senior management
position if he will take up a course related to the position and finish it.
3. The management should set up a meeting together with the employees to discuss
about the companys policy on promotion and the factors affecting employees
promotion in the organization.
4. Mr. Tom Merrill must expect that promotion is not about the length of service, its all
about the contribution and more focused on their career development.
5. Mr. Tom Merrill show to his boss that he is good problem solver. If there is a problem,
analyse it and developed possible solutions to understand of his boss that he is
applicable on the position he want even though a policy has changed in the company
and also he need a 360 degree view of the company.
6. Dont take feedback of what his boss asked to him about lack of formal education. Try
to take it in and see what Mr. Tom Merrill can learn from it, instead.
