Physics in itself is a term that all of us have heard at one point in our lives, and
have definitely experienced, however, many of us do not know how fundamental
it truly is to all processes on this planet. In this course you will utilize skills in
mathematics, engineering and literacy to express scientific concepts.
Curriculum
The course covers several different content areas with nine scientific practices waved
throughout. The course seeks to develop skills in inquiry, problem solving, and critical
thinking. The Physics Regents Exam will be administered on Thursday, June 12th, 2018 @
1:15 PM. The units are listed below.
Unit 1: Background and Units
Unit 2: Notion of Motion
Unit 3: Forces: Push! Pull!
Unit 4: Energy
Unit 5: Momentum, Impulse and power
Unit 6: The Subatomic World
Unit 7: Making Wave Hertz
Unit 8: Its Electric Boogie Woogie Woogie!
Unit 9: Magnetism

This year, the science department in our school will be working on the Common Core State
Standards for Literacy and Math with students by targeting specific skills throughout the
curriculum. In order to maximize achievement in this new model, students will be expected to:
1) Interpolate graphical representations to gather data trends and variable relationships.
2) Discuss discoveries, problems and concepts by citing science related texts.
3) Present research, lab data and methods utilizing scientific vocabulary.
Grading: Students will be graded upon the following criteria. Note: without
completion of the mandatory 1200 minutes of lab, students cannot sit for the regents
and thus will not pass the course.

Tests and Quizzes....................................................... 30%

Lab Assignments and projects.................................... 30%
Homework Assignments............................................ 15%
