Dear Sir/Madam:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I request that a copy of the following
document(s) be provided to me: all emails sent from the accounts
"commissionermcgahn@fec.gov" and "dmcgahn@fec.gov" during the time frame specified
below.

Date Range: July 9, 2008 to September 30, 2013

Description of requested records: Copies of all email sent (not sent and received; only sent)
from two FEC email accounts: "commissionermcgahn@fec.gov" and "dmcgahn@fec.gov"

In order to help determine fees, you should know that I am a representative of the news media.
As such, I am only required to pay for the direct cost of duplication after the first 100 pages.
I am a reporter at Mother Jones magazine, an award-winning print and web publication with a
readership of over 9 million people nationally, per month. As you can see on our website,
MotherJones.com, our content is original analysis, not aggregation of information. We have a
proven record of ably gathering information on current events, synthesizing that information
into distinct journalistic work, and then disseminating it to a broad public.

I request a waiver of any applicable fees. Given that Mother Jones is run by the Foundation for
National Progress, a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization, the requested documents are not
primarily in my commercial interest.

If my request is denied in whole or part, I ask that you justify all deletions by reference to
specific exemptions of the act. I will also expect you to release all segregable portions of
otherwise exempt material. I reserve the right to appeal your decision to withhold any
information or to deny a waiver of fees.

I look forward to your reply within 20 business days, as the statute requires. Please send this
information in electronic format wherever possible.

As I am making this request as a journalist and this information is of timely value, I would
appreciate your communicating with me by telephone or email, rather than by mail. If you
would like to discuss the scope of this request or have any other questions, I can be reached at
202-803-6665 or at akroll@motherjones.com. Thank you for your consideration of my
request.

Sincerely,
Andy Kroll
