Section A. Define the following vocabulary words.(12 pts):

Spreadsheet program Excel is a spreadsheet program that lets you organize or store information

Ribbon The area above your worksheet with tools

Name box The name box tells you the name or the location of a selected cell

Formula bar The formula bar is where you add things into the cells

Column A column is a group of cells the runs from the top of the page to the bottom

Row A row is a group of cells that run from the left to the right of the page

Section B. Explain how to do the following (6 pts):


1. Minimize and maximize the ribbon: To minimize the ribbon you press the arrow in the upper
right corner of the ribbon.
2. Work in Backstage view. Explain what you can do there: Backstage view gives you many
options for saving, printing, opening and sharing files.
3. Convert an older document to the Excel 2010 format: First you go to backstage view then you
find the convert command last the save as dialog box will appear. Select the location you want to
save the workbook, give it a name and press save.

3. Critical Thinking (6 pts):


1. Why would you not want to convert an old Excel document to the new 2010 format?
It might change the format of what you have.
2. What are the benefits of converting an older document to the newest format?
When other people have older versions you can share documents with them if you don't have the
same version .
