Team Battleship

Blurb: Participants will be challenged to evade the opposing team as they careful place and
defend points of interest, while strategizing to counterattack based on careful planning and
analysis. Discussion will focus on strategy, perspective, teamwork, and communication.

Topics/Skills: STEM, strategic planning

Purpose:

To understand the importance of creating an action plan.


To be able to adapt a plan based on changing circumstances.

Objective: To have participants work together to develop a strategy to accomplish a given


task.

Goals:

To create a plan to sink the other teams battleships


Relate STEM principles used in this activity to their personal lives.

Time: 30-45 minutes

Supplies:

Paper plates
Cups
Tape
Sheet

Activity:

Set up a grid with a divider through the middle.


Provide each square with an identifying number for each side.
Split into teams
Have the teams place their battleships on grid marks throughout their grid
Team will alternate turns calling coordinates (numbers) to try to hit the other
teams battleships
The first team to sink all of their opponents battleship is declared the winner for
that round.

Closing: Large group discussion
