7.4 Notes
7.4.2 Design Notes and Considerations
(design notes from case studies)

1. Reflection of the City Culture

-project building volume must reflect and adopt city culture and design philosophy of the surrounding
landscape and architecture
-building must reflect citys spirit and traditions and manifestations, both built and natural
-provide a vibrant center embodying sports culture in the Philippines

2. Manifestation of Function Innovations

-prioritize developing competitive sports and public sports
-avoid simplification of function development
-avoiding leisure sports as basis of traditional sports activities
-providing the complex to the public as having relative derived functions such as sports training, health
maintenance and offering the community for sports development

3. Concern on Financial Operation

-focus on the relationship between function and operation and streamlining in terms of space, which
promotes related business such as rehabilitation.
-multi-function and openness using relation of internal and external space improves utility efficiency
avoids idleness
-structure modeling to achieve the best cost efficiency by using concrete and large span architecture
according to the large nature of the spaces required

4. Demonstration of an Artistic Style

-adoption of local building style and tradition of local business and city environment
-the sports center must not clash in the style of the area location. Landmarking must be discouraged but
not avoided. This is to prevent unnecessary allocation of resources to the site even if the complex
doesnt warrant such resources.
5. Focus on Ecological and Environmental Protection
