Utopia and Dystopia Writing Prompts


Fiction:
Write about an imagined utopian or dystopian society inspired by realistic, political and
social systems (ie. Democracy, Anarchism, Socialism, etc.).

Second, when it comes to creating your protagonist (main character), write from another
point of view/perspective other than your own.

Lastly, make sure to include all elements of a short story (ie. exposition, rising action,
climax, falling action, resolution)

Other requirements:
No more than 3 pages typed and double spaced, 12 point font, times New
Roman, MLA style with word count.

Creative Nonfiction:
Write about a real utopian or dystopian society youve experienced first-hand. What
political and social systems (ie. Democracy, Anarchism, Socialism, etc.) have you lived
through, experienced, or learned about that has brought you to your current beliefs
about how society should function?

Make sure to include all elements of a short story (ie. exposition, rising action, climax,
falling action, resolution)

Other requirements:
No more than 3 pages typed and double spaced, 12 point font, times New
Roman, MLA style with word count.

Poetry:
Write about an imagined utopian or dystopian society inspired by realistic, political and
social systems (ie. Democracy, Anarchism, Socialism, etc.) OR write about a real
utopian or dystopian society experienced currently.
In addition, write from another point of view/perspective other than your own.

Other requirements:
Write 2 different poems with 2 different perspectives speaking about a Utopia or
write 2 different poems with 2 different perspectives speaking about a Dystopia-
1 page each (typed and double spaced)
Or...Write 1 poem with 1 perspective about a Utopia or Dystopia- 2 pages ( typed
& double spaced)
Typed and double spaced, 12 point font, times New Roman, MLA heading with
word count.
