THE PROBLEM AND REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

Introduction

The world today is the highest quality of technology because when the

world changes of futures our technology becomes rich of a hi-tech computer

technology. Rapid technology changes and increase globalization of two common

characterizations if the environments face by manufacturing enterprises of

technology product. Computers are efficiently tools in processing data into useful

information and help for our daily use improvement. Computer technology is

really a big help in the world. Can you imagine now how fast how to think the

computer there so many used of computer. Computer is a machine how can

manipulate a data with the help of person who can operate a computer. The

technology changes as fastest as the second of the clock. Using information

system help to developed our own programming to become more effective.

Information system is system to develop a kind of program that helps a student to

become more reliable.

Today, there are thousands of students going to the libraries, they used a

manual time in and time out log book. One of the best contributions of technology

in business world is the time monitoring system. Institutions with expanding

product varieties are faced with increasing problem in getting accurate demand

forecast for different products, controlling the time monitoring system providing

high service for students. In student time monitoring system is the one of the best

way of entering the students, in a computerized program time in and timeout of

the students the fastest and hi-tech login and logout so that no one can change

the clock if he/she entered the time is true.

List goods in materials, or those goods and materials themselves, help to

modernized in a new technology. Than a manual login, that requires them a

greater period of time signing their logbook and they cannot monitor the student,

come in the library on time. Thats why we proposed the time monitoring system

for Library of Mallig Plains Colleges, Mallig, Isabela for more easiness of evaluating

of the in out of the students. So that no one student can do what hour what they

want to write in the time in and time out in the library. Because the log book

change to a computerized login system.

Review of Related Literature

Foreign

Recently The Oregonian newspaper published a special series called Fixing

High Schools and colleges (Betsy Hammond, Bill Graves, and Melissa Jones,

January 1113, 2005). The series examined ways successful high schools and

colleges motivate and challenge students. As part of the series, a reporter

shadowed three Gresham high school and colleges students last year. For these

youth, school wasnt so engaging or positive. Jessica has had a chronic absence

problem, struggles with classes, and had not been able to connect with teachers.

Olivia failed two classes after missing a few weeks of school during a family trip to

Mexico, but is working hard to catch up. Although she tries to get involved in her

school, Olivia says that respect is a big issue, especially for cultural and sexual

minorities. Blake, who hopes to go to college, is taking easier courses to get better

grades, and carefully tracks his unexcused absences as they neared the number

that would prevent him from getting a parking pass (Jones, p. 3). These stories

are not uncommon. Schools report high dropout and absentee rates some cities

across the nation report absenteeism as high as 30 percent (Garry, 2005). And

with the emphasis on ensuring that students are meeting and exceeding academic

standards, schools are struggling to increase attendance rates knowing that

chronic absenteeism contributes to students lack of educational progress.

Although the importance of attendance is well understood, effective strategies for

increasing it are not so definitive. Much of the research in this area has looked at

the effectiveness of intervention programsprograms that are put into to include

a range of research designspeer-reviewed, published and unpublished, mixed

quantitative and qualitative research, case studies, surveys, expert opinions based

on personal experience, and promising practices from community based

organizations. As certain themes emerged from the research, key studies were

collected to represent those themes. Research on factors that contribute to

student success for students of different cultures, especially Latino, African

American, and Native American, was also reviewed. Although individual studies

may not have been reviewed in depth, a full reference list enables the reader to

explore the research further.

The Prevention Outcome Monitoring Information System that tracks

Philadelphia Philip W. Harris, Ph.D. Crime and Justice Research Institute PrOMIS,

youths referred to the Department of Human Services (June 2006, Peter R. Jones,

Ph.D.) Attendance Regular and frequent attendance in the programs is clearly a

pre-requisite for successful intervention. The data show that almost 80 percent of

the discharged youths were monitored for attendance by programs. These data

Mallig Plains Colleges
Mallig, Isabela
COLLEGE OF COMPUTER STUDIES

show that there is a gap between program expectations of attendance and the

actual levels of attendance. It shows that in more than 50 percent of cases the

program reported that they expected the youths to attend at least 5 days a week

whereas only 20 percent of youths attended that often. In contrast, only 7 percent

of discharged youths were expected to attend just one day a week when more

than 20 percent of youths attended one day a week or less. Programs were asked

to report at the point of discharge whether or not they felt the youths attendance

had been relatively stable. In approximately one-third of cases it was reported that

attendance had not been very stable, and in almost all these cases attendance

said to have declined during the program. Prevention programs vary considerably

in their philosophy and approach to youths. As a result it is likely that certain types

of match between youths and program are better than are others. PrOMIS asks

programs staff to indicate whether or not the youths were appropriate referrals to

the program and the results show that relatively few youths 12 percent are

thought to have been inappropriate for the program to which they were referred.

According to Eddie Tobey : Web based time and attendance software has helped to

deal with the problem of time tracking, which was one of the most time consuming

and costly overhead functions in many organizations. Web-based time and

attendance software allows the organization to manage its projects and track time

using a standard Web browser. It is an essential package to those business

enterprises where similar tasks are assigned to different employees, and the data

about the time spent on each task are gathered on daily or weekly basis. The

problems with local timesheet software can be resolved by using Web based time

Mallig Plains Colleges
Mallig, Isabela
COLLEGE OF COMPUTER STUDIES

and attendance software. As the Web-based applications are usually divided into

multiple components, the multi-tiered design is perfectly suited for time and

attendance software. This is because the Web-based time and attendance

software must support a very large user population, and it should be able to run

on a variety of desktops. Web-based time and attendance software allows the

employees to enter their time through a Web interface, view their vacation and

sick leave balances, their time sheets, and schedules online. The software reduces

use of paper reports and manual processing. Another advantage is that all the

employee data can be accessed easily. It is also a quick and easier method for the

supervisors to find whether an employee is absent from work or to locate any

replacement that may be needed for the day. There are many factors one should

consider while choosing the right Web-based time and attendance software. The

purchaser must check the technology of the system, the types of calculations the

system performs, how the data works with other systems, and the various ways

that data can be collected. Always select a vendor with a good track record this

can easily be researched on the Internet.

Local

The Universities of Lipa, Batangas deal with the new technologies

according to Manila bulletin online (June 25, 2006).The illegal practice of some

students to have somebody else punch in their time card or initial their

attendance sheet will be a thing. Starting next month, the state-of-the-art

biometrics-based attendance monitoring system for the students will be enforced.

This means that the attendance of all students in Batangas will be confirmed

through their fingerprints. The final phase in the implementation of the high-tech

attendance monitoring system was put into operation the other day when, led the

students in the registration of fingerprints said this project costing of the

computerization." At this time of Mallig Plains Colleges (MPC), we have to do our

part to stay attuned to the times, the mayor said. "We cannot claim to be in the

heart of the MPC growth in the metropolis and yet be very primitive or backward in

our systems the country to adopt this high-tech scheme, leaving behind and for

good its logbook system of time monitoring. Under the biometrics-based students

time monitoring system, the "pakisuyo system in attendance logging is

prevented attendance is thoroughly monitored."I believe this would not only mean

improvement in the log-in/log-out of our students. More importantly, this will

translate to more efficient delivery of public service that, in turn, will spur the local

economy to greater heights.

The University of Los Baos according to John Duque(March 2005)

monitoring tasks play a central role in information reassurance, Ensuring

successful monitoring is difficult, however, because the threats to which IA

monitoring systems must respond evolve continually in the never-ending

competition between adversaries and defenders. Libraries describing monitoring

methods at different levels of detail and specialized for a wide variety of

monitoring tasks and domains are intended to provide near-complete answers or

answer components for many needs, and provide for a coherent expression of

knowledge about intrusion detection, boundary policies, and the situational in the

same vocabulary. Therefore, it is not possible to design monitoring schemes that

are generic over these factors, or even ones that are specialized just to the type of

systems they are meant to monitor. In fact, operation of the monitoring processes

themselves may require checking the significance of events against a model of the

particular organization's structure and function. Custom creation of monitors

tuned to the needs of an individual enclave can be a very costly, labor-intensive

task, and this difficulty makes it more likely that inappropriate generic monitors

will be adopted across many enclaves, increasing their collective vulnerability.

METHODS OF RESEARCH AND PROCEDURES

This chapter describes the research methods and procedures used in the

study, the data gathering instrument and statistical treatment that was utilized in

analyzing, interpreting and evaluating.

Research Design

The study the data gathered was analyzed in rational form, using the

research design for the efficient and accurate information needed in the study.

Methods of Research

The researchers applied the descriptive research also known as the

statistical research, this method gives an idea in relation to the whole story in the

study and distinctiveness about the population being studied. It is being used by

the researchers to study the present system based on consciousness or reactions

of respondents regarding some issues have been tackled in the study. Descriptive

survey was being utilized in this study, this approach is appropriate whenever the

purpose of any cluster of students prove a discrepancy among themselves in

knowing the scale to which different situation.

Interview

The researchers accomplished to interrogate the Library and MPC-students

to look upon some issues about the present system they used in monitoring the

attendance of their students to the library. This method was being used by the

researcher to accumulate information in the Mallig Plains Colleges; it is very

flexible and the researcher has the free to ask questions regarding the flow of the

present system through this method he/she researcher looked upon the possibility

to develop a new system for monitoring the MPC-Students going to the library.

COLLEGE OF COMPUTER STUDIES

Observation

This method was being used by the researchers as primary basis for the

data to study actual scenario in the present system they are using in monitoring

the MPC-students going to the library. The researcher observed the flow of the

present system of the Mallig Plains Colleges; the present system in the institute is

manual (using Log Book) and the researcher come up an idea that the institute

needs more efficient and accurate improvement in monitoring of the students

through automating the present system.

Library Research

The researchers used the library research as the guiding principle in making

documentary analysis from the related studies and procedures coming from the

books, journal and thesis of the graduated students. This library research method

give an idea to the researcher on how to systematize and gather accurate data

needed, usually in definition of terms.

Internet Research

The researchers used the internet as one strategy to have wide knowledge

and some areas of information technology, the researcher believes that internet is

incessant of information it helps to the researcher for further analysis of some

definition of terms in the study, the researcher used the wikipedia as the

researchers reference. The researcher used the Internet research it can provide

practically instant information on most topics of the study on the way in which

ideas are formed and knowledge is created. The importance of this internet

method is to review the past literature related to the study of the researcher, to

expand the framework of the study, to further define some important terms in the

study.

Stratified Sampling

At first, stratified sampling might appear to be contradictory techniques:

stratified sampling was used in as sampling procedure to spread out samples

evenly over the domain, whereas importance sampling concentrates samples into

specific regions. Therefore, the researcher needed to stratify samples in the target

5
Mallig Plains Colleges
Mallig, Isabela
COLLEGE OF COMPUTER STUDIES

domain. The importance density corresponds well to the function being integrated

then the researcher did not miss important features in the integrand. The

researcher used the stratified sampling technique; the population is divided into

classes. The total sample obtained came from the allocation from each class

based on the size of division. In the Institute of Information and Communication

Technology, the researcher got the total sampling of 90; the division of

respondents was made. This is the sampling procedure used by the researcher;

stratified sampling is more reliable and accurate in terms of distributing

respondents and no much pain taking.

Instruments and other Source of Data

Questionnaire

The researcher used the questionnaire to gather information about the

status of the present system, respondents information, ideas, behaviors, and so

forth. The researchers compile the answers of the respondents in the sample in

order to know how the group as a whole thinks or behaves. This study involves

number of respondents, the appropriate mechanisms used by the researcher is

the questionnaire method. The advantage of using a questionnaire with a

stratified sample is a good way to find out the attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors

of a large group of people. The researcher can be more confident in generalizing

the findings.

Statistical Treatment
