Purpose:
The purpose of this learning experience is to provide children with an opportunity to
learn how to fit a string into a hole which will help them gain fine motor skills. The
purpose of this learning experience is also to provide the children with an opportunity to
make necklaces with different shapes and learn the different type of shapes and their
colors.
Observation Sample:
Last week in the kindergarten classroom, while the children were playing in different
centers, I noticed Child A was trying to fit his shoelace into his shoe hole which he was
he was having difficulty. As I was observing he came towards me to and asked me to
help him fit the shoes laces into the shoe hole. As he came to me, I went to his level and
kneeled down and first held the two shoelaces separately. As I held the laces, I was also
saying it step by step for one of the shoe lace to fit in the whole and then I told him he
should try to do the second shoe lace. Since he watched me really carefully to fit the shoe
lace, I verbally said the steps and he was fully able to fit the shoe lace. When he finally
fitted the lace into the shoe hole, I told him that he did and amazing job to fit the lace in
the whole and then he told me tie his shoe lace and also demonstrated that as well which
helped learn how to do his shoe lace.

Learning Experience: Sensory Making shape necklaces with wooden colorful shapes
and laces
I am organizing this sensory learning experience at the sensory table with 4 bowls filled
with wooden colorful shapes on each side of the table and laces beside each bowl. Im
going to organize with 4 chairs on each side of the table with the bowls, shapes and
laces. During this experience, the children will be engaged in learning their shapes,
colors and learning how to use their fine motor skills to fit the laces in the shapes to try
to make a shape necklace.
Objectives:
1. The children will develop 5.3 Fine Motor Skills from the Physical Domain as the
children have the opportunity to use their fingers to fit the lace into different
shapes and create their necklaces.
2. The children will also further develop 1.6 Cooperating Skills from the Social
Domain as the children have the opportunity to exchange/share the wooden
shapes amongst each other to make their favorite necklaces with different shapes
on them.
3. The children will also further develop 4.9 Reasoning Logically Skills from the
Cognitive Domain as the children have the opportunity to identifying how to fit
the shoe lace into the shape to create the outcome of making a beautiful necklace.
Materials:
1 table
4 chairs
Four bowls filled with wooden colorful shapes
Four different colored laces
Implementation:
1. I will set up this activity at the sensory table
2. I will provide the children with four different bowls filled with wooden shapes
and provide them laces to make necklaces
3. I will invite the children to try the activity with their peers to the sensory table
 4. I will demonstrate of how to fit the laces into the shapes
5. Throughout the activity, I will have some conversation with children to ask them
what kind of shapes they want to put on their laces

Teaching Strategies:

Invitation:
As the children observe how I set up the table with the different materials and laces, I
will invite them to the table to let them try the activity and help them discover how to
make necklaces with shapes on them.

Modeling:
As the children get really excited to try the activity, I will show them how to fit the laces
through the shapes which will help them feel more motivated to try the activity and learn
how to figure out to the laces through the shapes.
