Learning Experience: Cognitive : Matching Dice numbers to the number mat
I am organizing this cognitive learning experience at the cognitive table in the classroom.
I will place the mat on the table and I will also place the circles that are different colors
in two different bowls mixed together. During this experience, the children would
enhance their seriating and fine motor skills as they match the circles on to the mat with
the hands while matching with the similar colors.
Objectives:
1. The children will develop 5.3 Fine motor skills from the Physical Domain as they
have the opportunity to use their pincer and palmer grasp to match the colorful
circles onto the dice mat.
2. The children will also further develop 1.6 Cooperating Skills from the Social
Domain as they have the opportunity to take turns to match the circles on to the
dice mat.
3. The children will also further develop 3.4 Conversing with Peers and Adults
skills from the Communication, language and literacy Domain as the children
have the opportunity to communicate with their peers and with me throughout the
activity
Materials:
1 table
4 chairs
1 big dice
1 number mat
4 bowls with 21 different colored circles with numbers labeled on them
Implementation:
1. I will invite the children to try the activity as they approach to the materials
provided to them
2. I will organize the table with 4 chairs
3. I will encourage the children throughout the activity as they match each
laminated circle on to the mat
4. Throughout the activity, I will have a conversation with the children and inform
 me to tell, explain and inform me of what color/dice they are matching

Teaching Strategies:

Sensory Engagement
Throughout the activity, children would be provided with a large sized circle and small
laminated different colored circles. As children have the opportunity to hold the dice and
the laminated circles, children would have the opportunity to gain first hand experiences
while using their hands to place the laminated circle on to the mat

Telling, Explaining and Informing

Throughout the activity, as the children are playing the activity, I will be asking them
some open ended questions so they have the opportunity to explain what number the dice
has landed and what number they think they should pick according to the number mat
and color. As children have the opportunity to answer the open ended questions, they
have the ability to tell, explain and inform me of what they are holding.
