Learning Experience: Sensory Making snow and shaping it with their hands and other
utensils
I am going to organize this learning experience at the sensory table with two bins at the
sides of the table and the baking soda/shaving cream at the middle of the table so the
children learn how to make snow all by themselves. This activity will engage children in
experimenting with different substances to see what they are making and will also give
them the opportunity to be using their fine motor skills to shape the snow with their
hands until the substances become snow.
Objectives:
1. The children will further develop 5.3 Fine motor skills from the Physical Domain
as they have the opportunity to use their palmer and pincer grasp to shape the
substances that is provided to them and to shape it till it becomes into snow.
2. The children will also further develop 4.9 Reasoning Logically skills from the
Cognitive Domain as they have the opportunity to identify what happens to the
baking soda as they pour shaving cream inside and see the outcomes of how it
becomes into snow.
3. The children will also further develop 1.6 Cooperating skills from the Social
Domain as they have the opportunity to exchange the materials with their peers
while shaping and playing with the snow they made.
Materials:
2 squared shaped bins
Baking soda
Shaving cream
Implementation:
1. I will set up this activity at the sensory table
2. I will invite the children to try the activity and explore how to make snow
3. I will provide the children with smocks when they approach to make snow so it
doesnt get on their clothes
4. Throughout this activity, I will have provide the children with positive
encouragements so the children are engaged in trying the activity
Teaching Strategies:

Invitation:
As I set up the activity at the sensory table, I will invite the children to make snow with
me with a few substances and if they do get interested, I will ask the children to pour
each substances and to shape it, to show me how snow looks like.

Sensory Engagement:
Throughout the activity, the children will have the opportunity to gain their first hand
experiences as they use their palmer and pincer grasps to shape the substances until it
becomes into snow and as they make their favorite snow objects with different utensils
they are provided with.
