 Why Should We Have Nursing Home In Minangkabau?

Minangpeople have a slogan that is AdatBasandiSyara,

SyaraBasandiKitabullah(Custom must be based on Sharia, Sharia must be
based on Kitabullah). In Kitabullah all aspects of human life have been arranged
as well, including in worshiping to parents.

In Kitabullah Al-Isra : 23 it is explained that, And your Rabb has

commanded man not to worship but Him only and to do good to both parents as
well as possible. And if one or both of them are elderly by your side then do not
say both ah and do not yell at them. Just saying ah has become a big sin
especially if we leave our parents in nursing home. So it is our duty to care for our
elderly parents.

Some of parents are already weak and senile, it needs special care to nurse
the elderly parents. But that does not mean we have to entrust them to a nursing
home. They need love as they have loved us in childhood, they have given birth to
us, nurtured and guarded us so we can be successful.

But the fact that we still find there are many parents who are neglected by
their children in Sumatera Barat, even though they do not lack the material to
support their parents daily life, some of them think that caring for their elderly
parents is troublesome and can hamer their daily activities.

There are also parents who feel lonely and feel unnoticed because their
childrens are busy working. The desire of parents to enjoy their old age with
comfot and peace, and treated with affection by their children is not fulfilled so
they choose to live in nursing home.

From the many findings of this incident we can conclude that there so
many of people who can not appreciate their parents, probably because they are
less exposed by knowledge of Minangkabau customs. This indicates that the
morale of society that has diminished or because they are from poor families so
that can not support their family especially their parents.

But they all need the help of your visit to comfort them, to give them
affection. And the nursing home is a social home because it also accommodate
parents who have no relatives and residence.

And lastly, just to remind, always love our parents and despite being
decrepit do not ever put our parents in nursing home, remember when we are child
and naughty and many act, our parents never put us in orphanage. Rather patiently
always cares for us with affection. Never make a nursing home a parents dump.
