FOOD & DRINK FOR THOUGHT

Facilitated Networking to Promote Women in Soil Science
The purpose of this network is simpleto provide a support system to promote women through
executing action items that directly contribute to our merit and promotion files. To do
this we will 1) get to know each others values and science face-to-face, 2)
nominate each other for awards, and 3) invite each other for talks. The
second longer term step will be to increase
collaborations within the network that lead to co-
authored publications and successful grants. We
dont replace existing networks, we complement the
support system others have already established. We
would like to encourage you to focus support on
promoting junior, un-tenured faculty and postdocs
aiming for faculty positions. However, these action
items will help women in (soil) science of all ranks
and professions purely by bringing each other into
the public eye. We hope that you will hold such an
event at your respective institutions so that you can
build your action network at a local scale. In a year,
we will come together again and share our action
accomplishments and forge ahead with establishing
the next years goals. The ultimate goal is to get
more of us tenured, more of us at the topmaking
the decisions and
changing the system.
